how to stop a villager from wearing smth?

I kinda want one of my villagers to change their outfit (regret) but like....... how do you stop them? do you just report to isabelle or give them smth else

Reporting a villager's clothing to Isabelle is supposed to revert them back to their default, but afaik it's a broken feature. It only lasts temporarily (if it does anything at all)...

But good news--if it's not an item they love, they'll eventually gift it back to you, I believe. I got Dom from a friend and he had some ugly clothes that were given to him... and he gave them all to me at some point lmao. But Zell--who I've had for much longer still wears the shirt I gave him, so I assume it depends on how much they like the clothes?
If it's a custom design though, you might be out of luck. I haven't been able to get other peoples' designs off my villagers...

Edit: As a tip--if you're unsure about what clothing would look like on a villager, you can go to Harvey's island and have them try on the clothes there! Helps since Isabelle is broken lmao

If they are wearing a very plain tanktop, they are doing yoga. It's part of their wardrobe. Villager outfit consists of their default, tracksuit, plain tanktop, and raincoat.

I always thought the report clothing option is if they wear a custom design from Able's you don't like - that way if someone puts a design in your shop and a villager grabs it you can report and get rid of it. I didn't think it worked on regular ingame clothing?

i don’t think it works on custom designs, either, or at least i couldn’t get to work c’: they just put it back on after an hour or two.

No, its not a tank top that they have. It's a plain white T shirt. The same one you wear when you take off all clothes on the player character. They werent working out in any way either. Just meandering around the island waving at people, going about their business as usual.
