I've been trying to make blue roses for awhile now, crossbreeding purple/black roses, but it hasn't brought any blue. I've seen fansites saying different ways to make blue roses, but I want the true answer.

How do you truly make blue roses?

It's complicated. It'd be easier if you just traded with someone or something. But if you really want to do it, you have to have patience, seriously. Try experiment with different flower combinations and see what happens. I think the "main" combination is the, white + white = purple, yellow + red = orange, orange + purple = hybrid red, hybrid red + hybrid red = blue rose. There are a lot of combinations so try to do a lot of research.

Sorry if this wasn't much help.

hyrid red+hybrid red

hybrid reds look exactly like normal reds and there's no way to tell the two apart just by looking or even reading their names (both just say red roses)

You need to get those hybrid reds and be careful not to mix them up with regular reds. Put your purple and oranges in a place your villagers don't frequent. I used to load the game right before 6am to be sure any reds that showed up were the hybrid reds. And you have to be just as careful with them when you put them together to try for the blues. Good luck!

I heard somewhere that Nintendo confirmed that there's no such thing as hybrid red roses.

But thanks for the help.

Really? I bred my own blue roses from a patch of red roses (like 12+ or so grouped together), so I assume there must have been some hybrid red roses between them that made the blue ones. Otherwise it would mean that you can make blue roses with plain red ones, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case.

hybred red do exist.

white + white =purple
red + yellow = orange

purple + orange = redX
redX + redX =blue

redX= hybrid red.
red= red from red rose bags. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE BAGS FOR REGULAR RED in case you get them mixed up with redX.

people plant them in 3 by 3 diagonal squares like so:

[X][..][X]
[..][X][..]
[X][..][X]

Unless you have a legitimate source for this, I'm gonna say you've heard wrong. Of course even then, wherever you heard this from better have their own source to back up the claim.

Though they do technically not exist as their own flower if going off names, but per game coding they do very clearly exist.

red+red=black or red
hybrid red+hybrid red=black, red, or blue (also a very small possibility of orange/purple/yellow in my experience going by whatever the family tree is like)

I have never once in all my time of playing seen a blue rose spawn from just regular red roses. If it did, then the flower wouldn't be one of the more valuable hybrids on the market.

It takes some time but can be done.
I followed The Forbidden Blue Rose Youtube set up for the Orange and purple roses.
Than did Diagonal patterns for the Maybe Red Rose that came from the Orange and purple roses.

Planted mine on the beach. You do have to watch for villagers planting. If your down on the beach a lot they'll start showing up.
In my 2nd town the hybrids didn't like the beach. They grew well around City Hall. So plant them where you notice the most hybrid growing by themselves.

The black and purple roses breeding blue roses were only for Wild World. The rules have changed in New Leaf. I tried growing blue roses myself, but I couldn't. If it weren't for someone else, I wouldn't have any blue roses to sell. Now I have over 200 of these wild plants (blue roses) in my town.

Thank you guys, I will try your methods.

I was assuming the hybrid red roses were fake because I had saw that post (Nintendo confirming) and I had also tried myself to make them, but I was using the wrong method.

I've found the red hybrids (from purple + orange) easy to make, and I've lined them up in diamond patterns like usual, but its been a few weeks and still no blue roses. I guess it takes a bit of time and experimenting. I've always hand-watered each of my flowers everyday and its been working fine with breeding other hybrids. You should put your ordinance on beauty mode if you haven't already.
