How to keep villager crafting?

Backstory: I dropped by someone's island whose villager was crafting. That person was staying inside the house because they believed that if they stayed in the house it would prevent the villager from stopping/leaving the house.

1. Have you seen or heard that? (Is that a confirmed thing?)

2. If not, do you have tips to keep a villager crafting?

Yeah you can keep them hostage if you stay inside the villager's house. The only downfall is that you (the person keeping the said villager in their house) can't really accept tips or keep an eye on rascally islanders.
