How to get wifi on your 3ds?

I really really need to know how to get wifi on my 3ds! Animal Crossing New Leaf is almost here and I don't want to be stuck playing it alone. Please help me!

Get wifi then use your 3DS settings to connect to the internet?

sorry if that sounds rude but it's kinda basic and idk how else to explain, maybe someone else can?

If you could connect it on your wii then copy them settings on to your 3ds.
