How to get rid of time capsule?

So about a week ago, Benjamin gave me a time capsule to bury. I totally forgot because I got sidetracked when I was looking for my shovel. Anyway, it won't give me the option to bury it anymore. I've forgotten to bury time capsules before, but they always ask for it back and say forget it. He hasn't asked for it back, and now I have a useless time capsule taking up space. How do I get rid of it?

Can't you save it up in your mail box as well? I feel bad because a villager asked me to do this exact same thing earlier and I forgot.
