how to get furniture from villager house?

?? like if i like their sofa, how can i get it? ive tried mailing them tons of things and all they did is they replaced the sofa i wanted with something else.. that's it.

Only way i know is when they invite you over, speak with them a couple of times amd they will ask you to choose what you like.
However its only for some items.

If you wanted the sofa but they replaced it, keep speaking to them and there will be a chance that they'll offer to sell it to you or give it to you if your friendship is high enough.

I've noticed that it is much harder for this to occur if the item in question is rare and nonorderable. For example, I sent a sofa to Gaston so I could get his cardboard couch, but I never got it through any conversation. It is lurking in his "invo" though.
