How to fix this glitch

I am trying to type in my New Leaf town and mayor name. I have a Japanese copy of the game and am writing the names in hiragana and katakana. Under my profile, I am able to write out the names, but when I hit save, only the first characters pop up.

Any idea on how to fix this?

I'm pretty sure that Japanese characters aren't supported, which is why they don't show up when you save. Might be a wise idea to just convert it into Romaji.
