how to change your name?

i heard that villagers can start calling u different things than what ur name originally was. i have two questions

first, can u pick a name and how?

second, how do u unlock this?

To change your nickname, you’ll have to wait until one of your villagers wants to talk to you. They mention something about giving you a nickname. Then they’ll suggest one like “faboo”. Then they’ll ask if you like it or not.

This is the part where you can say no and put the nickname that you do want.

I believe that villagers start suggesting nicknames after a certain friendship level. I’ll see if I can find the chart.

Villagers you are good friends with will sometimes ask to give you a nickname. You don’t always get to pick what it is. They will suggest one then ask if you like it . If you say no they sometimes will ask you to pick one depending on your friendship level.

They can ask to change it but it will be awhile after they ask the first time. Other villagers can also ask to call you a certain nickname. They will say I heard someone calling you a nickname do you mind if I call you that too.

There is a caveat you cannot change the nickname they give unless they come up to you or thinking about giving you a new nickname. Even if you talk to Isabelle she can only change the catchpharse of villagers, not the nickname/greeting that you give them. So you'll have to rely on RNG if the villager feels like changing up the nickname or greeting.
