How to catch a fly?

Any advice on catching flies? I’ve yet to see a single one!

Boots, tires and cans can attract flies!
Spoiled turnips do the same thing, but they most likely attract ants.

You could drop trash all over your island so you increase the spawn rate of flies

It might help to make sure there are items around the trash. For the longest time I had flies... but no ants. Ants require a lot more space because they do the cute (or creepy, depending on your view of insects) little line-coming-out-of-the-ground thing and need sufficient space. But flies just... well, fly around it. I don't have any proof this'll help besides experience, though.

I put trash (boots, cans, tires) along a part of my beach and kept walking up and down until i got one. I think it would be easier to see on the sand then the grass, but I had headphones on so I heard the fly before I saw it.

put out a spent firework, the one i have lying around has attracted way more than any of my garbage items have

I built small garbage area. I just kept piling junk I caught fishing until the fly appeared

What everyone else said. I personally caught my fly on a can.

I also heard (not sure if this is true) that the used fountain firework will also attract flies.

it does for sure, I've caught several that way now. was pretty shocking, had left them out that first sunday, next day went to pick them up and suddenly the fly flew up disturbed by my approach

it took me one day to spawn a fly. i just put some rotten turnips on stone (which prevents the ants from spawning). i put it in front of my resident services, since i circle around it a lot, and almost walked through a fly! easy to catch, and very technical to spawn. glad i wasn’t a main character of the horror stories where they went at it relentlessly for... way too long.
