How to become a bronzen goddess

I've been trying for the longest time to become tan in acnl spending hours and days in a wet suit at the island but I've only got maybe 1-2 shades darker. I've read so many guides already and none of them have got me success.
I read one guide where if you just stand for 15 minutes in summer you'll get super tan! Yeah, no!!!

I look at all these other mayors with envy of their fabulous tans. How do you obtain a dark tan that lasts!?

Tanning is one of the most infuriating things I've ever come across. It makes me wonder why we can't just pick our skin tone from the beginning.

If HHD will serve as any indication, I'd say it's a fair assumption that future games in the series will do just that.

Tanning is impossible for me too. I tried everything this past summer to tan my character, and nothing worked. I would play on the island for HOURS in nothing but a wetsuit, and my character refused to tan. Eventually I just gave up.

I've had multiple characters. I've played in the summer.

And only one of them has ever gotten a tan - its a town with oranges.

I think that is the secret.
