I keep getting mixed answers online, and curious if anyone knows a sure answer?

I found somewhere that you have to had played 28 days, but still not sure.

Thanks!

Im hearing that you have to spend over 75,000 bells at the store before it upgrades, although I am as well seeing different answers.

It stinks that nobody knows the method of the upgrade. I'm starting to think it's just random at this point.

Unless Time Travellers have figured something different out, I would say 28-30 days seems reasonable.

Day 28 - Announces new Store
Day 29 - Closed for construction
Day 30 - New store Opens.

by now, we should have all met the buy/sell requirement.

It upgrades after a month. I know this because on the first day it opened for me, I TTed forward a month to get bed hair, and was pretty shocked to see it upgraded. I doubt I'd spent 75k there.

It should be a combined total from selling and buying like past games.

So if you spent 1k, but made 74k selling, that's all you need. Our first house loan is 98,000, so there's no reason someone can't sell 75k worth to the shop

Good point there.

I'll just have to wait patiently for another couple weeks then!

oh so it's based on days now and not how much you've spent? interesting. i've seen people who tt'ed that got an upgrade though, i doubt they time traveled that far. some of my friends just got the game

It's not a combined total unless you're required to wait 28 days. I've sold over 250,000 bells worth of items and purchased about 47-48,000 and the store hasn't upgraded. So far I've seen Polygon say there's no buy/sell requirements...just wait 28 days. The last I checked the Animal Crossing Wiki, it said something along the lines of "Spend 70,000 bells at the shop" with no mention of waiting x-amount of days.

To be fair, that could've been changed as I haven't looked at the page since the last time I looked...which I wanna say was last week. If we do have to wait 28 days though, I feel like I wasted my time trying to sell so quickly because now I have to play the waiting game.

Wait so out of curiosity did you play 28 days in game (one day at a time) or just directly TT forward by one month and unlock it?! :O

To get bed hair, you have to skip a month of not playing at all. Make sure you aren't wearing a hat. I skipped forward a month, saved, then went back to real time.

My boyfriend and I both unlocked the upgrade when we reached 25 in-game days spent.

That's actually pretty interesting- so it could be just 28 days have passed since starting the game, which could also be counting when you TT back a few days? That means my shop could be opening soon since my switch clock was behind a few weeks when starting the game which is kinda bittersweet that I won't experience it upgrading synced with friends.

I've spent over 75,000 at the shop, sold way more, and have played more than 28 days yet it hasn't upgraded. I think it's random.

Did you time travel those 28 days? Unlocks in Animal Crossing are never random AFAIK. That's usually reserved for visitors and loot tables.

We'll know for sure if us Non-TT'ers start getting the upgrade around the same day.

Yes, but other TT who've sold and purchased over those amounts and played over 28 days have the upgrade, so it's odd.
