How the heck do dirt patches work?!

I've had some dirt patches in the same places for AGES. They are always full of flowers and I try not to step into it, watering them every day. But I haven't seen any progress, the dirt is just as it was long time ago...

This 2 patches have been like this since I can remember...

Now the funny thing is that when I get a new dirt patch (from bringing down a PWP or letting a villager move out of my town) I insta-fill it with flowers and it just regenerates the grass in about 3-4 freakin' days!! How the heck is this possible and what am I doing wrong with the other patches?

Recently I deleted a PWP (the zen bell, 2x2 space) and quickly filled the place with 4 flowers. Then I realised in that 3-4 days the gras was almost 100% back. Here's where the PWP was:

I really dunno what am I doing wrong with the other ones...

I think (this might not be correct) that there are permanent dirt patches in certain spots in your town, I'm having the exact same problem! I know that there was a dirt patch behind my house when I first started and it still hasn't gone away, even though patches from old pwps or houses have gone :\

Yep, Sizzles is correct. Some dirt patches are permanent - even when using cheats, they will always come back the next day.

A good strategy would be to work with them:
Try to lay paths over them or build on top op them. That will hide them from the eye.

I was having the same issue, lol. I guess I'll have to just deal with it the best I can! *goes to find more flowers*

In your town, there are permanent "dead" patches where trees, flowers, and bushes will not grow properly and wilt. You can build a PWP over them which has always helped for me. They get really annoying =P
