I am doing online trades for NMTs for my future hunt. As a result, I am coming into contact with many a void. Does that mean that once my plot is up for sale (in two in game days from now), villagers are more likely to infiltrate from the void?

To be honest, I sure hope not. I want to experience the torture of wasting NMTs on villager islands.

It usually gets filled up after one day. It’s possible it may not get filled the next day but that is such a low chance it’s not worth the risk.

I think what KayDee said is correct, but I just wanted to share an interesting personal experience I had. So, around a month ago I wasn't really playing ACNH at all, maybe checking in once every few weeks (as I lost motivation). And, so every few weeks when I checked in, one of my plots just never filled up. I believe it was empty for around one or two months, until I found a villager on an island to fill the spot in once I had gained motivation to play again,, just a random story i had ! :)

Work on the premise that you only get one day as that has been my experience! Otherwise you end up with a random as I did!

I only have ever gotten one day but I did stretch that out once to like a day and a half by putting my switch into airplane mode. Not sure if that works every time, though!

It usually is just 1 day but as an ex cycler here is a fun fact: if you kick out enough villagers through TTing you go through the villagers queued for your island. You have to be careful inviting others to your island because the villagers that got kicked out without being bought can get put in that queue. However if no one is there, and you have a lot of weeds on your island, you can extend the time it takes to get a new villager in the plot. This is how I used to get several chances for better villagers.

Can you explain this a bit better? I want to know how to extend the time but I don’t quite understand what you are saying. Thanks.
