How many game copies and DS's do you have?

I have 2 physical copies and 2 3ds. I play both games naturally, just let things happen as they normally would happen. I play each game about 30-45 minutes a day. If I'm trying to work on something (landscaping/decorating/clean-up) then I will spend a little more time on that town that day.

I'm confused on how the whole two games, one DS works. I have a physical copy, but if I downloaded the digital copy, would I need another SD card to play a second town?
