Let's say, hypothetically, that you adopt a villager from a giveaway and once you have them they aren't what you expected. How long would you keep them before you let them go or try to give them to someone else? I have had Jacques for a month and I'm not as pumped to have him as I thought I would be. He asked to move today without me TTing or anything. The problem is that I want to show respect to the person who gave him away hoping he would find a good home. It would be ungrateful to try and trade him, right?

He's not in a good home if you're not enjoying him. I suggest gifting him to somebody who has him as a dreamie. ^^

I don't think it matters how long you've kept him, as long as you give him away free! Or trading him for another villager would be fine with me. If you're unsure, maybe message the person?

I received Marina in a giveaway and kept her for a while, but I thought she was boring. I gave her away to someone for free.

It's fine to give them away under the same circumstances that you received them, I think. Jacques can be popular with some people; he used to be my dreamie. I think that if you've had him for long enough that he asked to move without TTing is fine. It's your game, and you shouldn't feel pressured into keeping a villager if you really don't want them.
Like I said, it shouldn't be hard to find someone who really wants him for a more permanent home.

Now that you say that, I think I remember there was someone else in the thread who wanted him. I'm going to try and find them now....

Just give him away or trade him to someone who will give him a happier home :) I understand how that feels -- I had Chrissy from my friend and I ended up just not liking her, so I gave her to someone who had her as an ultra dreamie! ^^ It was great to see their reaction. It doesn't matter how long -- if you don't like em, you don't like em. Just try to find him a good home! <:

As long as you give him to someone who would love him and enjoy his presence the person would understand. :)

As long as you don't try to make some kind of profit from the villager, I think it's perfectly acceptable to give the villager away again if you don't like them as much as you thought you would. :) You can't always know in advance how much you'd actually like them.

I don't think it's disrespectful. You thought you'd really like them. You were in earnest. It turned out you didn't like them that much. I think out of respect for you getting it as a giveaway, I would give him away to someone else who wanted him if possible, since you are concerned.

Give them away; don't try to make a profit on them. Getting them for free and then selling them for profit is just ugh. And I know people who would never trade with you again if you did that >.<
