How Expanded is your House? Exterior Renovations?

So for some background, I am looking to fully expand my house before focusing on much else.
I don't have much in the way of interior design... I just really want to fully expand it.
Right now I have all the extra rooms (save the basement) and have fully expanded the upstairs, main room, and room on the bottom floor to the right.
So the expansions I have left:
- Left room to 8x8 (598,000 bells)
- Back room to 6x6 (498,000 bells), then 8x8 (598,000 bells)

That's a grand total of 1,694,000 bells! And at least 3-4 days to do (without TT).

What do you guys feel about expanding your homes?
Worth it? Too Expensive? Do you care more about the exterior?
Where are you in your expansion? Do you care more about the interior?

I changed my exterior to pink then modern. I was about to go full modern remodel on the outside, but I realized I didn't like that look with the villagers homes. I think I'll go for something like this. ​

I don?t really like to expand all my rooms fully. Usually I do the main room fully, get all the rooms like the back, right , left, upstairs and downstairs, and design from there. If I have a room that I need more room in for the designs then I expand those. But usually I like mini small rooms (I?ve come to love them).
Most of my houses it?s main room expanded, then one or two other rooms expanded halfway and then all the other rooms mini rooms.


I care more about interior and a lot of my designs are based on the expansions. I like my houses looking cozy like actually houses so I don?t like to fully expand. I do focus on exterior as well because I like my exterior to match my interior. ( I added some pictures just so it makes more sense). I try to also color match exteriors with interior design.

I honestly expand my all my rooms completely and i still dont have enough space XD, i think its worth it if you have something in mind anyway. but most of all i just like seeing my house fully remolded because of the size, ive had to make multiple homes to hold all my rooms and sets so in my opinion fully upgrading is the way to go

I really regret the choice of fully expanding most rooms, I wish there was a feature to back-petal it.
The rooms just look too big and not lived in, and it can make it hard if you're going for a really specific room theme. I've mostly given up on doing things with my spares' rooms for this reason. It's on me though because I didn't really plan ahead.

I think the price is fair as money is fairly easy to obtain in this game.
As for the exterior, I love how partial added rooms look, I feel it gives a very quaint vibe.
In general, I really am hoping for more exteriors!

So far my house has only one expansion, haha. I am slowly working towards the next one - but really really slowly. There's just too many PWPs which I enjoy much more than expanding my house! I did just start the game 2 weeks ago though, so eventually I'll get there. I'm not much in a rush, but I do plan on expanding it fully eventually.

I totally agree that I love the way it makes the outside of the house look too! I am now considering not fully expanding my last two rooms... but it's so tempting!

In New Town, I wanted to fully expand all the rooms in all the players houses, I thought it would make me look more like a long time player and not a noob. Well, I did manage to do that (21 mil+ bells later) but then I saw rooms that were small and looked pretty dang cool. Now in Moriyo and Treehut, I purposely leave rooms small and don't add rooms also. I wish I could have gotten the secret storage thing without havin an upstairs for Soren, but even then I made use of that room.

Ooo thank you! The dream address is all done in my signature (I’m trying to recreate the town though to be more congruent with the theme, but that’s in a separate cartridge. This house most of it stayed the same. You’ve also been a great help when I’ve needed some items

Having played the original Game Cube version of Animal Crossing, I don't think the house expansions are too expensive at all. It's so much easier to earn money and get a fully expanded house in New Leaf. It's not cheap, but it's enough of a challenge to make it worthwhile, in my opinion.

I care about both the exterior and interior equally. I think they should compliment each other and make sense together. It's all part of the complete package in my mind.

For my mayor, I knew when I started the game that I definitely wanted her house to be fully expanded. She's the mayor, so she can afford to be a little extravagant, and I've selected both exterior and interior pieces to show that. The only room I would have considered keeping small was the main room, because I wanted it to be like a traditional Japanese genkan (entryway), but since you have to expand the main room fully before you can add any other rooms, that wasn't an option. The entire house, inside and out, has an Asian (mostly Japanese) feel to it.



When I created my alt, I knew I wanted him to be a simple farmer so I wanted to keep his house small and basic to reflect that as well. I fully expanded the main room to be his main living space. I added a second floor and expanded it once to be a small bedroom. And I added a back room and expanded it once to be his outdoor space where he stores his crops, ect. I haven't finished his exterior yet because Nook hasn't had all the pieces that I want. I definitely want to get either the grass roof or black thatched roof and I keep flipping back and forth between the cabana and earthy exteriors. But his house is as big as it's going to get and I think it suits him pretty well. It's also furnished very simply on the inside with an older Japanese style.

That farmer's house is so adorable! I can get the reasoning behind both.

Right now, I recently restarted my town so most of my rooms aren't at their final size. As for what I plan to do, my school houses will have almost all of the rooms fully expanded, because in order to replicate my real-life shools in Japan, I'm going to need a lot of space as the classrooms, gym, library, playground, teacher's room, etc. were all quite large. The exception is going to be my school nurse's office which will probably be the second-to-smallest size (Just enough for a desk, sink plus countertop, two beds, some dividing curtains and some plants) and the principal's office, which will either be the smallest or second-to smallest as it will mainly just have a desk, a plant, a table with flowers, two sofas and a coffee table.

Ditto for my onsen, which will have mostly large rooms for the guest room, Japanese restaurant, and indoor bath, but both the outdoor rock garden/lily pond and the outdoor hot spring/sunbathing area will be smaller.

That sounds so cool! I would love to see your town once you get it ready, especially since you're basing it off of your real life experiences in Japan. I'm a bit obsessed with Japan, but unfortunately I don't have the time/money to visit myself.

Aww, thank you! It will probably be a long time before my town is ready for visitors, but I'll be sure to let you know when it is!

It's been really fun so far trying to re-create real-life places, though sometimes it's a bit hard because I have certain places in Japan that were important to me but they don't really go together in a house. So I may just have one house that's a relatively-random amalgamation of places like a German-Japanese restaurant, a very specific cafe, a convenience store, etc. Maybe I can turn it into a shopping center - we'll see!

I can completely relate to not having the money/time to visit Japan (I can't afford to return either right now), but if by chance you do ever get to go some time in the future, I suggest somewhere rural as it's seriously dirt-cheap and you get to see what everyday Japanese life is like in an area not aimed at tourists. I suggest anywhere on Shikoku (especially Ehime) as being very affordable, but Kyuushuu is great too!

I'm actually really happy with my current house size and I don't think I'm going to upgrade it completely (maybe for one of my other players, but for my mayor's house I think I'm done with it). As far as exteriors go, I haven't paid much attention to the exterior shop so I don't have much in that respect. I have a bit of a grey look going thus far, though.

My house is fully expanded. I'm trying to get all of the exterior parts to be kiddie themed, just like the kiddie furniture series. It's been in the works for months now because Tom Nook just won't sell me those parts I want.

I expanded to the max just the main room and the basement, I think. I had some problems with that empty spot in the center: it's hard to put something there to make big place cozy. And a little room is cozy almost all by itself.
