How exactly does the design spaces work?

I thought that once I put a design down (I was making paths) that would just stay there.
But I then went back to my storage design and swapped a bit of the path out with a dress I wanted to wear. When I went back to the town I realised that the path I had set down had all be swapped with the dress design I had picked.

I'm just a bit confused, is there no way I can have clothes in my designs but have the paths on the ground?

I hope this is understandable.. It's kinda hard to explain >.<

You should make another character to store your path designs. That or chose a smaller path to use.

this is why people make alt characters so they have more spaces to place down their paths. it's probably something you're going to have to do as well.
