This is really bugging me. I am trying to befriend Biskit in one of my towns. I sent him a letter but he wrote back saying he didn't understould what I said. I spelled everything correctly. It's just really confusing.

as far as I know, the letters they send back are random. there's no way for them to really respond to whatever you've said (although that would be amazing) so it's just a response picked from a bunch of ones for his personality type :-)

Do you also use correct punctuation? Pretty sure that helps with good letters. Also letters with 3-4 lines are your best bet, if you send a letter with just 1 line it's looked as a bad letter.

I got tired of writing out full letters so now I just do:
Hey (villager name)
friend
present
happy
thank you
friend.
(attached with a present)

Lol. and it works. they send back a letter happy about it & usually with a present

I've received letters like yours sometimes.
In the beginning I wrote I hope we can be friends. Than later added your friend at the end.
Than mention how nice they were and later added the BFF to the letter when they dropped by my house.
They mentioned the BFF in the next letter.

ooh, this is good to know! i had no idea there was even such a thing as a bad letter; i always only write one-line letters (because i have no idea what to say, lol) and never get any sort of negative responses from it. i rarely use punctuation at all, either. i'm definitely gonna start using that template! ;v;

The letters I write usually have to do with a present I've bought them from the store. "Hey (name) I saw this in the store the other day and thought of you. I hope you like it!" Or "Hey (name) I really enjoyed your company at my house the other day, let's do it again sometime friend!"

Ahhhhh, I see. Very important to know then! I try to write out full letters but it can get tedious pretty quick, having to type out 6 lines of dialogue to ten different villagers. I started sending out one-lined letters and it was very inconsistent whether I got a letter in return or not

And lol, me too! I started sending out one sentence letters, and it was a shot in the dark whether I got responses or not (and same, they're weren't negative). I mainly used one sentence letters to send out furniture, because I don't know exactly what to say, lol

Make sure you write properly and do not use abreviations. Sometimes a short letter is better than a long one, which is what I do when I don't feel like writing 6 lines. Not once have I received a letter in which they told me that they didn't understand what I said.

I typically write "Dear _____, thank you for being a good friend." like Crash said, the responses are random by personality type.

if i write my villagers letters, i use the same method i would always use in the game cube version, although their responses will always be at random regardless of what you actually say. usually all my letters are variants of something like,

"Hey, Buddy!
I'm glad we're friends.
Do you want to go fishing?
I got this present for you.
Please write back soon."

and if you stick to that line method, and include a small gift like fruit or shells, they'll always write you back with enthusiasm and presents in return. haha. i know this method was more important in the game cube version bc animals would complain about understanding, but it's much more lenient in acnl.

Hmm avoid slangs or short cut words and hit return when the words get cut off. Writing about your day or what you want sounds like an okay topic c:
