I was just wondering how unusual my way of fishing is. my favourite way of fishing in all the games has always personally been closing my eyes and lifting my finger above the button to prevent preemptive pressing lol. what about you?

before I made this thread I decided to try my hand at vibration only too by closing my eyes and turning the sound off, and it was surprisingly good! I managed to catch 100% of the fish I tried it on including a shark that I didn't realise was a shark because of the angle I was at haha. I may consider becoming a vibrator more often and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven't already! unless you have a switch lite in which case I'm sorry man

plonker lol
i close my eyes and wait for the sound, it's so much easier imo

For the most part I fish normally, but when I find myself pressing A too quickly and missing a ton of fish I start to do what you do. It helps me get back in a rhythm.

Sound only. The fish moves around inconsistently, but the sound is always the same, so it's easier to not panic if I don't look at the screen.

If I see the fish bite, I'll freak out and hit the button early. I HAVE to listen with my eyes closed or I'll mess up. I'll still mess up even then haha.

I've tried fishing on occasions when I can't have the sound on-- it's a disaster.

THIS. i never knew how much anxiety a shark could give me until I played animal crossing

Depends, I never have my vibrate on so sometimes I just base it off of sound. But, on the times I do listen to my own music and I go fishing, I just do it visually. I've lost quite a bit of catches because of just relying on my eyes, but there are times I need a break from just hearing the OST.

The sound works best for me, after struggling to get the 100 fish streak I finally decided to put some headphones in and listen to it and I finally was able to get it.

Sound only is the only way for me to not mess up (although for some reason I end up still messing up by having expectations, like sometimes I'll be convinced that the 3rd time will be a real bite so I press A on the 3rd time whether it's a bite sound or not... 😩)
If for whatever reason I can't have the sound up too loud, or if I'm not really caring I'll look at the screen too, but my preferred method is definitely sound only!

Same. I just close my eyes or look elsewhere until I hear the sound. When I don’t do it, I usually press the button too fast lol

The sound when the fish bites the bobber never fails me when I try to catch them. In fact, I close my eyes to rely on the sound cue and not the visuals as I tend to slip up there.

Can't trust myself with anything other than the sound! I've tried relying on visuals but always choke and try to reel in too early.

Kapp’n ghostwrote this poll.

Seriously, though, I usually just go by sound. I can’t look at the screen without pressing A too early/late.

Sound because visuals always mess me up. When I'm fishing I usually look away from the screen and take my thumb off the buttons to prevent me from messing up. This is how I was able to get the nook achievement of catching 100 fish in a row.

I have to agree with most of you plonkers, but sometimes in a distracting environment or if I'm particularly tense it's quite difficult for me to distinguish between the small plop and the plonk so I somewhat rely on vibration too

actually very surprised how many people close their eyes! it's definitely the most reliable way to fish imo

I always watch the fish but I find it impossible to fish without the sound. I’m also on a switch lite so I don’t have vibration

I usually just do it the "normal" way (visual + audio), though admittedly it does lead to me being a bit too trigger happy and pressing A too early just based on when I think the fish will bite. On New Leaf I remember just relying exclusively on sound and having it work almost all the time, though it's harder to do with NH since I tend to play with my Switch docked and TV sound is harder to rely on than headphone sound for me.
