how do you prefer to decorate your house?

My main character always has a functional house with all the living necessities while alts will have facility type buildings or themed houses. I prefer my own house to be on the smaller side though. I really miss how in New Leaf we had a lot of exterior options to customise smaller houses. I only upgraded fully because it was tied to our storage and had the most exterior options. I'm not used to designing such a big mansion and I rather it be small and cosy. Despite needing to have a realistic house, I have reserved my basement room to be an "outdoor" room because I can't resist rotating around some awesome Saharah animated wallpapers and flooring :)

I've always preferred to stick to a realistic theme, so my house is decorated accordingly. It was tempting to create something more unique and extravagant, especially with the zodiac items, but I think I'll find another use for those in another way. I certainly wish we had more room to work with though, I certainly feel the growing pains in my own house. 😅

Mine is a mix of both. I have all the realistic rooms a house needs: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, study and crafting/garage/tool shed room. Tho all my rooms will have a silly gimmicky twist to them eventually.

At the moment my attic is a heaven themed bedroom with cloud walls, whilst my basement is hell themed garage with magma walls.
My hell room also doubles as a murder room coz it fits the hell vibe and the murder weapons/tools work for the garage theme.

My study room (I have a bookshelf you have to slide to enter the room to make it feel more secrety) has the security surveillance camera walls so is set up to look like a "I stalk the whole island"/evil computer hacker vibe.

I like to make most of my rooms look sorta "whimsical" that was how i did it in nl. Like using those floors and wallpapers that make it look like you walked into nature and such. I never added a bathroom or a kitchen but i like the pics people post here of such rooms. With that being said, i havent worked on a single room on my house yet.

I try to make it as realistic as possible but I end up liking a furniture set too much that completely messes it up! :')

I've been playing this game for months now and still haven't been working on my house. I just don't know what I want to design, on the other hand I've been very busy with the island self

Mine is fairly realistic, if not laid out the usual way, though I'm supposing if there were more furniture series available I'd do what I did in NL and do a series per room. (Then again, several of the sets I used most often, like green and modern wood, could be replicated with current DIY furniture, so maybe it's just that I had a specific plan in mind lol.)

Idk how I want to do my house up! Atm I'm just putting items in it that go together without any sort of direction or theme.

My main character is going to have a realistic house that will kinda be a house I would LOVE to live in. My alt character will have a spooky dark old fashioned mansion style house. I plan on making many more alts with different themed houses ^_^

Mine is realistic, except for my basement.

My main room is a living room/work area in a New England saltbox design. The bathroom is blue and white with a nautical theme. Kitchen is pink and looks like a confection. My right side room is a still room with lots of plants, a lab experiment set, books, etc. Upstairs is a yellow/white bedroom/sitting area with a loom and spinning wheel.

My basement is where I departed from reality. I wanted a beachy-witch room, so that has the tropical vista, starry-sands flooring, and a few items to make it both beach-like and witchy.

I'm guessing it's the one the HHA likes the least, but I don't care. :)

My house is both realistic and not realistic at the same time lol
Most of my rooms are both themed *and* functional
My main room looks like the ocean floor and has really nautical themed decor, but it's also functional as a living room.
My right room looks like a ship deck and is decorated with fish but it's also functional as a kitchen
My back room is a garden, I like to see it as my house's back yard
My left room is currently incomplete but it's going to be the most realistic room, it's going to be a really fancy study
My upstairs is a bedroom/ensuite because the shape was perfect for this and I don't enjoy making bathrooms on their own. It's mainly mermaid furniture because I love the set and it fits the other nautical rooms in my house
My basement doesn't have anything right now but I was thinking I was going to make a cosy basement hangout area once the autumn items become available

So... basically a house... owned by a crazy ocean person? Or... A mermaid's house? XD

I have a more realistic house with a fun basement! My basement is underwater themed. But on the main and top floor I have a living room, bathroom, office/craft room area, and a upstairs bedroom in the loft!

It’s a mix. I have a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, but I also have an underwater piano room and a basement-run mafia syndicate.

i like themed houses. for my main character. there's a restaurant with full kitchen, bar, and guy/gal bathroom. upstairs is SAT prep and downstairs is O.O.

I also have a haunted house, hotel, studio, and beach house as well.

I have a realistically laid-out house with a main room, bathroom, games room, den, and bedroom. But each room has a completely different aesthetic based on whatever I’m feeling when I start decorating. You can go pretty quickly from log cabin to elegant purple.

Ignore the basement, that’s where DIY cards go to rot help.

I tend to go with a realistic house, in the sense that I have a main/living room, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. I may do something more fun with my attic or basement, though! Like an indoor garden, or a celestial or witchy-themed room. :)

I play the game with a three year-old, so although we have a living room, it's got jungle flooring and walls; the bedroom is a starry beach; the bathroom is in the clouds; the kitchen is a tropical vista with sand flooring...then the basement is an underwater room filed with musical instruments, and upstairs is the sci-fi room with all the space items on display!

I love it.
