For those of you who are more serious players, do you have any methods of training or practicing? Do you play certain game modes, etc?

Before this game I'd practice on Brawl and Melee with a team of 2 Level 9s vs. me. Of course, I didn't always win, but it was the most challenging form of training I could use. For this game, For Glory 1v1 people can be really difficult (and annoying) so I mainly use that to get a good taste of what I'm up against.

As mentioned above there's only really one way to train and that's to just throw yourself against a couple of 9's.

Also, pick a character you will really enjoy to train. You're going to spend a lot of time practicing with it so you have to enjoy it for it not to become a chore. After you've picked your character you can read the wiki/guides for more in-depth information. You can also watch either videos or streams online of players that use your character and sort of get a hint of how to play.

Just play a lot, enjoy your game and whatnot and you'll get better over time.

I tend to use 1v1 For Glory for my training, if I'm trying to get better with certain characters, I'll smash a few times with them and hopefully get used to common match-ups with them (Little Mac, ZSS, Samus, Bowser, Ganondorf, Ike, Marth, Mario etc.)

However a really professional Palutena user really caught me off guard last night, they were so good with their spacing and close ranged too, they especially knew how to combo with Palutena's grabs, even getting easy grabs onto me by doing a single jab hit and rushing up to me, throw me down and combo with it.

It was really fun, it was a shame I had to go after about 10 matches with em, I'm sure they had fun too because I wasn't the typical Ganondorf user who tends to Flame Choke alot.

Otherwise I'll play around with a Level 9 AI when I'm offline.

I don't think that's true, especially because the AI plays pretty different than a human player.

I play against my lvl 50 Amiibos because they adapt to my play style, and I can learn how to overcome their artificial adaptability. It helps me get better as well as be much less predictable.

Yeah you've got a point, but I feel like it would be more reliable though, until you start beating them with ease.

In terms of reliability, yeah, it's more reliable than playing For Glory, which has a wide range of skill level. I think the most reliable thing, though, is playing with one or two of the same people a lot.

It is, however, finding those people are quite hard.

I just play the game. Play with friends, go on for glory, do a run through classic or all-star, whatever. I also watch some YouTube videos for fun, but I sometimes learn a trick or 2 from them.

I like playing 1 on 1 with a higher level, random CPU on Omega stages. It keeps me on my feet because I never know what character will come up next, and I can't just hide behind items and stage hazards

I usually just find sparring buddies on here as you know or kick it on For Glory haha.
I got an irl pal who's pretty sweet at this game too so we get down for hours sometimes.

I don't train by fighting level 9s, it doesn't help me much. I just practice my combos in training mode against tall stationary characters like donkey kong. I also practice recoverys and techniques in training mode.
