I've been trying to plant flowers in areas around my town to fill space and make it looks nice, but I keep getting so overwhelmed with it and frustrated. Nothing really looks just right to me. So in taking a break from that... how do you decide what to do with your flowers? What inspires you as far as layout and placement and color combinations? And do you have any tips for others who might not be so good at it?

I figured maybe I (and anyone else who needs it) might find some inspiration here!

I've been trying to plant flowers around my villager's homes that match their exteriors a bit. Like, Julian has white tulips and blue pansies and Tia has white violets and yellow lilies. I just feel like it doesn't really pull everything together, though.

a year ago I basically robbed the island of as many flowers as I could by going on tours and I had them EVERYWHERE. I recently rearranged all of them by flower type so I have fields of red tulips and basically every flower that isn't a hybrid :) I have a hybrid starting field but only for pink roses which go all around marinas house ~

I'm still working on the paths and public work project placements of my town along with organized trees, so I don't plan on making my flowers all decorative yet..but I have a start. Right now, a majority of my flowers are just in huge groups in one general area of my town divided by what type they are. So far, I've just been outlining my paths with them with a pattern of colors. This is probably just me, but I hate it when two of different flowers are together, especially if they're different colors, so I just do for example..black roses, blue roses, black, blue, and so on. If I run out of those roses but I still need more, I just simply use roses like white and red for the meantime until I get more black and blues. The same thing applies for other flowers. Also, I plan on basically outlining my town with flowers once I eventually get enough. Honestly I don't bother with my villager's homes and flowers as decorations because if they move, I'll most likely have nowhere to put those flowers. This is just what I do though, I'm pretty basic haha

That's exactly what I did at first! My beach is entirely covered with flowers ;;

I try to go by the colour wheel while grouping flowers together than look nice together to me.

I personally like the look of blue roses and purple pansies together, so I would place them in front of my home.

I've started mixing flower types in areas to see how I like it. Some breeds I think look nice together, and I think matching by color vs breed looks good sometimes too! Like my mayor's house right now is surrounded with white roses, carnations, lilies, jacob's ladders and tulips, and I really like how it looks (but her house is also in the forest, so I think that adds to the natural feel). The only area I really have "organize" is in front of my train station. I have alternating yellow violets and pink cosmos, and I actually love it.

(this is the only picture I have of it, and you can't really see much :c Also, a red rose slipped in there somehow. I blame Julian.)

But everything else is pretty bland :c I don't plan on letting my villagers go, but I can definitely see why you wouldn't bother with it. I had a few villagers leave on accident and then there were just flowers sitting around in square formations that I didn't know what to do with x_x

Ooh, I didn't even think of purple and blue together! :o

Ah- that looks really cool ^-^ Yeah I did something similar with the bushes in front of my town hall, but it's basically just paths three spaces in width that just surround a rock, haha. It's difficult to explain how it looks, but yeah the rock is basically where your fountain is. I have a pretty "big" general map, no weird spaces or anything..but for some reason I found that I literally have no room for public work projects. I just realized the problem is because of my flowers have been taking up all the space. I love how you placed the street lights and bushes though c: The cherry blossoms are a great addition as well

Thank you! I got lucky and didn't have any rocks directly in front of my station ;; And I'm currently having the opposite problem with pwps... I have some open space that I'm not sure what to put there x_x I even have a gridded map in paint where I plan everything out, but I'm just kind of stumped. Eventually I'll replace those lamps with the fairytale streetlights (if it ever gets suggested). I have the fairytale clock and I want to get the fairytale train station upgrade as well, so I thought the azaleas, yellow violets, and pink cosmos matched that very well c:
I added more flowers around it earlier, but I'm terrible at taking screenshots lol

Pink cosmos black lilly's and black tulips!
Purple pansies pink tulips and white lillys!
I do different combinations like these ^I really do it on the area like for my forest camp I did regular flowers and mushrooms and clovers. Around villagers houses I did it on their personaltys and looks and some areas I just do all of the different colors of the same flower, I like having all the different flowers at least used once in my town!

I hoarded flowers from the island for a few weeks and got loads of hybrids. Then it got overwhelming to the point where I didn't know where to start. So I decided to get rid of most yellow flowers. And rearrange the rest starting around villagers houses. I made it so it compliments the house's colours, and in between the houses I mainly covered the areas with white flowers, jacobs ladders and clovers. It looks put together. I also have areas of grass. So the whole place isn't covered with flowers, but the areas that are still look planned but not too much.

I have a different flower scheme for each villagers house and my house has a ton of hybrids surrounding it. on one side of the river I have paths and have flowers on each side of the path. I use all flower types and colors but I am sure to make sure each side of the path has a twin flower.... I'm finding it a little hard to explain that part. Then on the other side of the river I have lines of flower all organized by color and flower! like a line of red roses, a line of yellow tulips, purple violets, white roses and so on. I think it looks really nice and is fun to walk through!

I try to breed hybrids on the beach!

I love mixing strange color combinations together. Some of my favorites are....

red and yellow roses.
purple and orange
Blue and black
blue and yellow
Orange and red
Orange and blue

Some of these colors put together look really nice to me. I especially love mixing yelllw roses with any color.

I put species and colors that look good together and try to make them match the house or other building they're near.

I have most of my hybrids on the beach, for safe keeping while I ponder where I'm going to put everything. I do the classic of surrounding flowers around the villagers houses I want to never move out. But I usually stick to the one colour and one kind around each house. Like Flurry house I picked pink roses, goes really well with her pink house and white fence. And then I put some flowers around the pond I have too, going around red orange yellow in a circle around it. I thought that looked cool :D
All the non-hybrid flowers I tried to gather them in one corner of my town, but my villagers did not only spread out single flowers here and there, but they have created their own field of flowers by one of my bridges. The bridge they hang around the most, watering and planting more. So I didn't really need to do much around that area :D I'm still trying to find spots and places for my other hybrids, I tend to just wait for an idea or image to pop into my head before I move them to see what it looks like :D

I think that sounds really pretty, your villager's own flower field! I usually get annoyed when mine plop a random flower down, because it never suits the color/scheme I'm going with xD

It depends. A lot of times, I'll look at pictures of flower beds and garden arrangements to see what I like. And then I'll try to replicate it or adapt it in-game.

For my main town I am doing a lucky clover/mushroom pattern around my plaza to fill up a unless strip of land. Also near the bulletin board I am planning on doing a gyroid/buried fossils pattern c: For flowers you could always visit my dream town because the patterns are hard to explain but theres a illuminated arch above my plaza with a cute flower design around it that you could check out~

i pick a color scheme for a certain area in my town, like the main part of my town has pink, black, and some white flowers all randomly placed around my paths. I have a bamboo forest with all the blue flowers, white violets, and some purple flowers. and another area with pink and yellow flowers. I just sort sort them out by color but they are all pretty random, i don't really sort them by type. I also have an area i use to breed hybrids so there are patches of four and 6 flowers of the same type to make hybrids. that part looks a little off because the colors don't coordinate at all lol.

Yes, that's what they started doing and I kept bringing the flowers to the corner, but all of a sudden one day they had planted like 3 or 4 flowers in the same spot and I was being lazy so I let them be. A couple of days later it had exploded into a whole field! I think I will keep maintaining the other areas in town, but that flower field I'm going to let them keep that as they want it :D
