Hi, I just recently got a second town and I have been having trouble making progress in it because my main town needs a lot of work in terms of landscaping, unlocking decorative PWPs, getting dream villagers, and decorating the interiors of my houses the way I want to. I'm just curious how other people manage their towns because I know lots of people on here have 4 towns or even more
black magic
lol, not really. I just dedicate a certain amount of time to each town per day, and focus most of my attention on one at a time. if my main town needs the most work, I'll just play a little in my other towns and make sure no ones moving, do the basic fossils and stuff, and then put it down to focus on my main town.
I don't have multiple copies, but on days that I don't have much time to play, I only do the essentials like Crash mentioned in the previous reply. I hope to get a second copy at some point.
I have a hard time managing more than one town, and as a result, had a second cartridge with nothing on it for over a year. I was only able to really get into a new town when I was basically done with my other one. I guess just carving time out each day and picking a FEW things to focus on in each. I still play both towns every day, but now I play the newer one more because I don't have as much to do in my original town.
I have three, soon to be four, towns. My first (main) town is the one I use to play for fun. The others I built/am building for the Dream Suite, so I basically work as hard as possible on them with my free time.
What works for me is time travel--or lack of time travel, sort of. Whatever towns I am currently not focusing on each get their clocks set once a day to remain on the same day as where I left them. (Like the hiatus method, but not.) I like doing that because I ensure no villagers move out by accident, and when I am ready to focus on one of those towns, everything is as I left it. Also, I get to see each of my towns every day, even if I don't have time to play.
(I have no qualms about time traveling. As a busy adult who still manages to spend a ridiculous amount of time on ACNL, I have to look out for myself--it would be silly of me to allow my towns to fall into ruin just because I was busy IRL.)
I have three copies of the game and not a single one of them is finished. In fact, my first town is still very much a work in progress town. My second town is being put on hold until I finish my first town and my third town is my cycling town that will convert to a permanent town once I get the specific villagers I want for the first two. I may end up getting a fourth copy to be a permanent cycling and holding town. I honestly don't know how I have time to visit both towns (my first and cycling). I focus most of any time that I do have to my first town, which still has lots of work for it to be considered finished. Then once I'm finished with what I set out to do for that particular play time, I hop into my cycle town for a few cycles. I usually go and reset the time for my second town- that is on hold- even though chances are I will most likely reset the town and perhaps move my first town villagers over and make that my main town, but I will have to see if I can make the first town layout decent once I've laid out flooring and pwps.
I am amazed at those who play decent amount of time in multiple game cartridges, I get tired after my first town haha. Please give me your secrets!
I have multiple towns, but only play one at a time (unless I'm connecting two for a visit) - I think I am doing something similar to what Athelwyn describes in her post
- I 'freeze' time; I change time on the 3ds (in system settings) and then load the game - the game takes the time from the 3ds.
I make a written note of when I save, when I can play again, I turn the clock back to a time after that last save.
I go slowly forward, playing in the past.
Progress is slow, I'm OK with it, I play this game to relax, not trying to make the best town ever.
Using the 3ds to change time would not suit a lot of players; you can change time with Isabelle at the front screen but as I don't play other time connected games, I prefer to keep both times in sync.
This is the way I deal with paying multiple towns, but I would probably still freeze time even if I was only playing one game.
Eg I could not play ingame events (such as Toy day) on their real life dates.
Pripyat is complete, so I just check in to do my basic daily chores. It only take a few minutes. My second town is newer and gets more attention. Still, I haven't been doing a whole lot there, so it's a very slow WIP. One day, I'll probably scrap it altogether. I also have a Wild World town that I spend about an hour in each day.
I don't do much landscaping until I have all my dreamies plotted, so for two of my towns I just check them each day for a few minutes to make sure the dreamies I do have aren't planning to move out. Those towns are just a waiting game until I can get all my dreamies. I spend the most time right now on Pyrena since I just got all 10 of my dreamies there and I'm starting to landscape and get more PWPs. Noveon is already completely finished, landscaping and all, so it's currently "retired" until I have time for it again.
I have four towns, but my main town was mostly finished by the time I got my second town. My main town is like 98% done now. I usually only log on to that one to check shops for stuff for my other towns and deflect movers now. My other towns I spend more or less time in any of them depending on the day. I usually do the basics in each one and spend a bit of time in a particular town working.
I have two towns, as you can see in my signature and I do my daily business on both of them one at a time and then play on whatever copy I'm in the mood to play. It's simple, but sometimes I get lazy with my second town.
