Just wondering what everyone has as a personal preference !
Recently I decided to just do certain colors for flowers and sell all the ones I don't like. hoping I don't regret this later though.

& mainly I'm wondering what everyone does for trees/orchards.
currently I have one perfect cherry orchard near my waterfall and another smaller orchard with foreign fruits.
but lately I've been thinking of just chopping down my foreign fruits and having a bunch of perfect cherry trees in different spots in my town.

I also chopped down all my island fruits a longgg time ago. xD
& where do you put special tree pattern stumps(if you do plan ahead with the silver axe) or is it just random throughout your town?

I've barely done any landscaping in my town, and I don't really have a set plan, but I definitely want to have all sort of flowers. I'll also plant bushes around the train station and the plaza. I only want my native peaches in my town, the golden perfect ones are going to be grown by my house. I just put my PWPs were they'll fit and landscape around them.

What I did was I decided my "layout" for my town. Meaning, I put down my paths first. It took a while to figure out what I liked and didn't like (after much trial and error). After my paths were to my liking, I decided to put some bushes, trees, bamboo shoots around my paths. Then added in flowers later. Overall, I'd say trying to figure out what "layout" you want your town to have is the hardest part. The easy part is landscaping your town, in my opinion.

yeah paths have definitely been a struggle. it also seems impossible to have a final layout until you get all your dreamies & the perfect spots, which I'm still trying to accomplish.

I have like 20 pink and white azalea bushes saved up for when gabi finally leaves and I can landscape around my house lol.

I like to divide my town into themed areas and then go from there. For Catopia, I have my mayor's house and backyard area, a campground area, a fountain plaza area, a tree clock area, a flowery garden area, an illuminated garden area, a forest area, and a hot spring area.

I plan on doing dirt paths once I get everything unlocked and have a little more time. I only have flowers on one side of my map; I set them up in columns of four and then just plant them downwards as they spawn. So I've got four rose columns, four lily columns, four violet columns, four pansy columns, etc. etc. As for trees, I've been cutting down all my natives and replanting on a little peninsula where most of my villagers live. All my foreigns go around a pond next to a river in the southwest part.

i literally just screw around with everything that i can until i'm content with the way things look.
i'm constantly re-doing everything and making tons of changes over and over again.

i always plan my tree stumps tho.

Most people surround their paths with flowers but I think thats sort of weird? Like what if you want to make a special garden somewhere else in town? It wouldn't be that special since there would be flowers EVERYWHERE anyways. But if you're doing a flower themed town then go for it. But what I do is just add trees and lots of bushes to my paths and add a few flowers along the way. To me it looks a lot better but everyones town is different. Also another thing you could do is make other save files and download QR codes for things like ponds or stairs. It ends up looking VERY cool.

Of course it is super hard and frustrating when villagers and your dreamies move into spots that you worked so hard on. Good thing I found of the Plot Reset Trick when I was starting. It saved me from more hair pulls lol.

I'm playing around with bush starts as it's so fun seeing them placed diagonally! I have some orchards for perfect fruit, but playing around with trees is fun as well! I've been trying to make glades.

Haha my town is full of flower arrangements and I'm so aware of how annoying and impractical it is. How can the entire area be covered in flowers without them being trampled on? The reasons is that I just want to protect my grass.

I always start with paths. Always. Sometimes it's just basic main paths and I make smaller side paths later and sometimes I go all in and put down ALL the paths on the first or second day so I can better plan where I'll be trying to place my villagers as they move in. I genuinely hate working around villagers and have gotten to a point where I refuse to unless I end up with a dreamie in my original 5. I usually avoid much landscaping until my dreamies have all moved in because I tend to fill my town with yellow benches to help with plot resetting and working around them is awful and hideous. The bonus to it is that I end up getting quite a few good pwp requests while I wait for the villagers I don't want to leave, so once I get to tear down my yellow bench plague I then begin putting up pwps I actually want. This also gives me plenty of time in town to get a feel for the flow of the place, and to assess the space available for the pwps I think I will want. I also get the chance to stockpile saplings and Bush starts because usually it takes me some time to get everyone moved in.
Once I get going I tend to match colors and themes to villagers and their homes and just try different combinations of things here and there til it looks the way I like. It ends up being a lot of work but I always get pwp requests on days I work on my landscaping, so it always feels well rewarded.
It's hard, sometimes I takes a couple tries to get it to feel right, but it's so worth it once it does

i wait to do all my landscaping until i've gotten all my dreamies, otherwise it's just a huge pain in the ass unless you're willing to spent days plot resetting them into the perfect spots. in my first town, i have brick paths & trees, in my second town i'm not bothering with designs and just letting it stay natural, and in my third town i'm working on dirt paths -- annoying, but my personal favorite. in all three towns i use lots of flowers and bushes too, i feel like they really bring it all together.

as for orchards, i have one specific spot in each town for them. it's usually somewhere kind of detached from everything else, but that's just how i like it for whatever reason.

I've done quite a bit of landscaping :3 I have perfect apple trees all over the top half of of my town, a few cedar trees, then one of each other fruit tree lined up next to my town square. I'm saving up a bunch of pink and blue hydrangea starts to plant in spring, and I'm farming tons of hybrids both in my town and on one of my beaches. I'm still planning to do a bunch of stuff, but feel free to visit if you want :D

I just put things down where I think they look good. For the tree stumps, I just put them where I'd like to have a place to sit, but can't manage to fit in a chair/bench PWP because of space issues. Fruit trees are near retail for a quick profit if I ever run out of bells (probably never).

omg landscaping is my favorite thing!!! I think you've been to one of my towns for a trade I know....

I use a zillion bushes... anyone who follows retail and TBT marketplace knows I am always looking for bushes. I love to use the bushes to make little sectioned off areas for all my villagers and stuff: color coordinating to the villagers color or personality. Then it gets different by my two towns.

In Riften, I used a ton of all different colored flowers to match the villagers and their personalities, house, and bushes. I have a nice stone path and all the PWPs fit the theme of each villager. I have recurring plaza tiles too for cool coordination and the whole villager looks nice if yo want to see the DA in my signature

In Zephyr I am going carefree and low maintenance! I really wanted the late-night ordinance, so I couldn't use any flowers that require watering... plus I did the whole flower explosion in Riften so I wanted something different. I made the mistake of wanting a main path through my town made up of clovers.... which is super expensive and tedious. The different plots come off this clover highway and its looking good! I don't have like any PWPs yet though so its gonna be a little bit before opening! I also hated how the bushes had to be one space away from everything, but I remedied it by just rimming my whole town in gold roses!!

if you ever have landscaping questions or need an opinion or visitor to pay you compliments just lemme know :D

Ahh all of these are great thank you ! I definitely feel better about chopping down my foreign fruit trees now lol.

yes ! the tiny little bit I saw of your town I LOVED. mainly because there were no paths.. although I do love paths, I hate them too. XD & thank you so much for the offer ! I think once I move out a couple more villagers and get my dreamies in, I'm gonna start a thread with my DA and pay people to visit and give advice/criticism/ compliments etc. so I'll definitely be letting you know when that happens haha.

I've been contemplating on whether or not to change my spooky town theme to a whimsical town theme.. Or maybe try to mix the two?.. Idk. I only use certain flowers though. Yellow pansies, all purple flowers, all orange flowers, and all black flowers. Oh and yellow lilies down the beach. I don't want my town to look too manicured, in terms of trees, bushes, etc. so I plan where I place them I just don't mind a less than "perfect" look. :)

lol I'm working on my paths now.... I just remember in the early gamecube AC days I could never do paths and make gorgeous towns because of lack of skill in making the patterns and patience.... now that I can rip other peoples patterns off the internet, and have a better eye for style, I can do it!

I like planting flowers. Thats the extent my town goes to landscaping atm. I keep taking down paths because I get bored with one pretty easily and dont really have any set out plan for landscaping

I only have my perfect trees (peach) and a lot of roses
I don't think I'll buy me bushes I'm getting happy the way it is :)
