You get TBT by posting. You get 5 automatically for posting a thread, and .15+ for making a post (some give out more though). Since you are new you will also be getting Welcome bonuses up until about your 60th post. Otherwise, you're going to have to trade for them.
There is also selling artwork, selling villagers, selling in-game items, etc. in the TBT Marketplace. Also, a surefire way to make plenty of TBT Bells quick is to sell a 'valuable' collectible you snagged from the Shop during 'restock.' A restock often coincides with a 'TBT Direct,' or the introduction of a new 'birthstone' toward the end or at the start of the month. One way to get a sense of value is to read the 'Guide of suggested median prices for collectibles.'
