I've been googling and none of the answers that I've found have been very clear to me. Summer is getting to my brain, I guess, so I'm just not getting it. Could someone please explain it to me? (:

I think I put this on the wrong board. Ignore this <3

You see how a Pokemon has six different stats?

Hp
Attack
Defense
Sp. Attack
Sp. Defense
Speed

When you breed a pokemon each stat has a random number from 1-31 which CAN'T be changed. When someone says a Pokemon has an IV it means they have a stat that has 31 points in it basically. Thanks to the friend safari every time you catch a Pokemon in there you have a garaunteed two IV's on a Pokemon or two perfect stats. Breeding two pokemon with perfect IV's increases the chances of perfect IV's being passed down as long as a parent is holding a Destiny Knot.

Click here for a larger image. I know this seems like a lot to take in but its simple enough that a person who has never IV bred or EV train can understand. Pokemon X/Y was the first time I ever did.

Chromie did an excellent job explaining it. To put in my two cents, here's a calculator you can use to calculate your pokemon's IVs. I use this all the time. It's very handy.

I know there are methods for figuring this stuff out but I wish Nintendo would just give us an NPC who tells us a Pokemon's IV's numerically (not that horrible vague bullcrap they pulled in Kiloude City). Super Training gave us the ability to easily track EVs, why not IVs too?
