How do you feel about New Horizons going mainstream?

I'm not really sure it 'wasn't' mainstream before NH. I just think the active player base dwindled because it had been so long since the last installment is all.
Yeah, I'm always amazed when people say it's used to be a niche game before NH, when NL sold more than 12 million copies worldwide

I think it’s overall good for the game and community. The more people buy it and show interest, the more likely Nintendo is to keep supplying us with new content.

There’s always been issues with people not respecting each others towns, acting rude or being annoying. I really don’t see much of a difference now tbh. If there’s more trouble with players, it’s just because there’s more players total. I ignore or call out their bad behavior, same as I do with anybody else.
yup, this pretty much sums up what I think about this.

I also feel like the sudden popularity boost was not random, New Leaf was slowly getting more and more attention over the years. I went from not knowing anyone who played the game in high school, to college where I met a decent amount of people who played the game (or at least, more people than I expected). I think its nice that others are branching out and trying new things, and I'm glad I'm not so alone in my love for animal crossing anymore!

At one point, i was new to ac. Why wouldn’t I show them the same kindness I was shown when I first played. However, it will always sting a little that something that people lowket judged me for a couple years back, but nowadays they are huge fans. Eh but that’s just my petty feelings, and I don’t like letting them get in the way of supporting our new members

overall good. the only issue i have is when people on youtube see that it's popular & then they jump onto creating content for it with the sole intention of making a quick buck. i've seen a few people who act like they know everything about the series but you can tell it's just so fake and they're only going to play the game for a month until the hype dies down a bit.

i mean, good on them for increasing exposure to the game but it feels weird knowing that's all they're doing. to each their own, i suppose.

yeah no thats just a statistical error, i bought 11 mil of those 12mil copies /j (i genuinely had like 5 ;w; )

I’m not too please, mostly because I just feel New Horizons is pretty lacking tbh. I wish a game like Wild World or New Leaf had the immense success New Horizons has instead, those games felt like more care was put into them.

As an Animal Crossing boomer (lol), I'm both really proud of the series and also nervous about it's community's future. AC has come so far since the GameCube game and I've always wanted people to play this hidden gem pre-NL. I feel like NL was the gate way to AC becoming mainstream and NH cemented it on that pillar. NL's popularity lend to Villager and Isabelle being included in Smash Bros, which actually gets a lot of new players (hardcore and casual) aware of the series. I'm happy to finally be able to play with my non-hardcore-Nintendo friends and non-gaming-in-general friends as well. On the other hand though, I do realize that with this new found popularity there's way more toxicity than there was when NL was released. It's a double edged-sword, but I certainly don't mind teaching the good-willed newbies the ins and outs to Animal Crossing etiquette. Everyone starts somewhere after all.
