How do you decide on your dreamies?

I based mine on the ones I thought were the cutest. I don't really go seeking out my dreamies too much though, because I like to experience all kinds of different villagers.

New Leaf is my first game in the Animal Crossing series so I sadly don't have nostalgia attached to any of my dreamies.

Bunnie - she randomly moved into my town before I had reset and I was instantly attached to her.
Marshal - I had been plot resetting and randomly got him and fell in love with his design when I looked him up.
Lolly, Maple, Beau, and Fauna I mostly fell in love with how natural they looked to their species. Lolly also reminds me of a kitten I had for awhile a couple years ago.
Francine - I had in my cycle town and I got attached to her so I adopted her from someone into my main town.
Genji - My good friend has him in her town and adored him and would always bother him when I visited.
Fuchsia - She's pink. Hot pink. Also she reminds me of a manga/anime I love so.
Felicity - Was the name of my best friend growing up.

All have different reasons but I love all my villagers.

clearly i just studied the top tier list lmao ;_;

i had stitches in ww and genji looks like my own rabbit, as for the rest i think i got manipulated by their looks (or their popularity who knows) i do like them all though. it would be nice to be a little bit more original i suppose~

I have to adapt to them from previous games. ex: Rosie, goldie, bones are some of my favs.

But I think I prefer chrissy and ankha over them ... after all I started my town with those 2

Most of them I chose from a list of villagers online, that had their pictures. So I guess that's really shallow. I hadn't even gotten the game yet! I wanted Julian, Stitches, Fuchsia, Monique, Merengue, Pietro and Muffy.

Once I started playing the game finally, I met Sparro and Carmen. They were starters, and slowly but surely, we became friends! I got really lucky I think, because they are now my 2 favorites! In fact I also had a few other villagers that were almost dreamies, randomly move to my town. They were Agnes, Shep, Bruce and Timbra. I had to think long and hard about letting each of them leave, and I definitely got teary-eyed over their goodbye letters. They were lovely and I wish I could have had room to keep them, but I just didn't want them in town as badly as the villagers I have now.

The only villager/dreamie that I never planned on was Marshal. I heard he was popular and I looked at his pic and I though, yeah, he's cute, but so are a lot of other villagers. I don't see what makes him special.

But I kept seeing him in dreams (and talking to him), and in a friend's town, I saw how adorable his expressions are, and I learned from the other smugs that I had in my town that I really like that personality type. I really don't know what happened, but before I knew it, I was really a huge fan of this little guy. I think the cute fan art I saw about him on tumblr didn't hurt either. But there's cute fan art about a lot of villagers, so IDK. There's something very childlike and cute about him. Much like Stitches. You just want to protect them. So eventually I finally decided it would make me happy to have him in my town, so I could love him and we could be friends.

I wanted certain spieces so I choose them based off of looks and design.
For Molly and Flora though it was looking at their picture and it was love at first sight. So much so that I built a town theme around them.
Frank is also a special case, I had him as a random move in and liked him quite a bit.

They're either ones I got attached to, ones I was attached to in previous games, or ones I thought were really cute. Of course, if they're in the latter categories and I don't end up getting attached to them, I don't keep them as dreamies.

I try to get as many different animal and villager types as possible. I try not to get something of the same animal because I feel like having some mix-ups in the town would be great.

First I set out which personalities I wanted in my town - at least one of each, balanced number of genders, and duplicates of personalities I found to be 'least unique' - normal and lazy for me. I didn't want to get sick of the personalities repeating things too often, and I find it's most tolerable with normals and lazies. :) I also wanted only one of each animal model, so that cut out a number of villagers too.

Then it was a case of looking down lists of each personality on animal crossing wikis, and deciding whether I wanted to replace certain villagers I already had in my town, or if I would definitely keep them. Then with this list I asked the kind people on this forum if I could visit their DAs with those villagers so I could experience them for myself. This surprisingly made me have second thoughts about villagers I thought I would love, and it also opened my eyes to other villagers (for instance, I had no interest in getting Bam until I met him in a DA). :)

I now have all of my dreamies in my town, and I am pleased with all of them and have no interest to change them!

I like to look around on the Animal Crossing wiki because I think it's interesting how many villagers there are and how their personalities can be different even though they're just the same personality type (if that makes sense.) I just liked some villagers and their personalities and interests more than others. Some others were in old towns, and Wolfgang became my dreamie when I saw a specific post about him that nearly made me cry when I first got the game lmao.

My search for dreamies was definitely a combination of things. Kiki was unique in that I missed her from back in my Game Cube days. Some were based on design. Then I realized I wanted a few different villager personalities, and went on a hunt for the an Uchi and a new Cranky. Puddles came with my town, and that little cutie is my absolute favorite. Love that lil' frog ^_^

i look at their pics and if i like how they look ill visit them in a dreamtown and if i still like how they look ill get them

I feel horribly shallow for saying this, but my dreamies are completely based off of looks. Though I guess in my defense, it's not like you are going to get a huge deep personality and backstory with the characters anyways, so I suppose appearance isn't such an evil way to choose favorites. I looked at a website (some kind of wiki I think? ) that listed all the characters by picture, and I just kind of went off of that. From there, I pruned my list to include at least one of each personality type and...ta-da!

#1 - They all had to have windows on their doors. I hate pressing the up arrow to see if they're home.

lol, that's the first time I've heard that one. I like.

I have to say, if I was to start a new town, I'd let whoever wants to come in. I ended up loving 2 of my starter villagers the most of all the dreamies...but if I had had a choice I wouldn't have picked them. I would have missed out on how adorable they are and how much they make me smile/laugh.

They are generally just villagers I've had in the past that I liked, normally from the original game, such as Prince, Vesta, etc. But there are some different ones, such as Kiki and Cesar, who were originals in my New Leaf town that I grew attached to. And finally there are those with designs I really like, such as Jacques. I wish we had more room for villagers than 10, because there are more villagers I'd like to have...

lol. I tend to see villagers in friends' towns and then decide it would be nice to have them in mine. I also have decided by having them visit my campsite.

I thought of a theme I wanted. I knew I wanted 1 of each personality, plus 1 extra smug and snooty as I like those personality types. Then I went through and made a list of the villagers I liked that fit my theme in each personality. I'm kinda picky so I only had to narrow it down in a couple of the personalities, so I looked at the outside of their houses and whichever I liked better I went with.

Most of my dreamies are villagers I've had and fallen in love with in past saves that got deleted for one reason or another. The rest I managed to fall in love with online via blogs, forum posts, etc.
