How do you decide on your dreamies?

Do you fall in love with them at first sight or do you like them from past experience? Do you specifically pick out 10 of them or is the number random?

Just wondering since I'm trying to decide on which villagers I should be aiming for.

Entered every villager that "Caught my eye", tried to narrow it down by personality and species. Visited dream addresses that had the villagers to see if I liked them "In the wild".

Though some times you don't know until you really see someone. I didn't know how awesome phoebe was until I saw her in my campsite. On internet pictures she just looked like an ostrich and I looked past her.

I browsed through the list of all villagers in AC:NL and when I saw Flurry ♥__♥ oml, she looked so adorable~ even on fanmade art and stuff. She's actually the only one I had picked out as a "dreamie" (notice the past tense, I have Flurry now .w. she appeared in my camping spot one day). Currently I have my eye on no-one else.

So, the number is random. I pick villager(s) from a list.

For you it could be helpful to think about what characters you prefer (snooty, peppy, etc.) and if that doesn't matter, what about the looks? Who looks good in your opinion?
...Or you could just go with the flow. Have some random villagers move in every now and then and maybe, just maybe, you will fall in love with them once they're already in your town It has happened to me with Aurora.. and Rolf.

Some I just flat-out adore, be it their design, type, or just growing to love them.

I guess that I like to at least have somewhat of a diversity in my town, though. There's a ton of "Normal" villagers that I love (and quite a few "Cranky" and "Peppy" ones, too), but I try to narrow it down so I have some different personalities in my town. Three of the same is a bit too excessive for me, no matter how much I like the characters.

It's been a fun little adventure getting to know the different types and characters, too, since Animal Crossing: New Leaf is my first Animal Crossing game. : ) The only thing I regret is that I can't really afford to buy a second copy just to have another town full of other characters that I love.

Normally, my dreamies are the villagers I've grown attached to or those who fit my town well- the majority being the former category. For instance, Kyle's house isn't exactly the most fitting for a town themed around archaism/wildness, but I grew fond of him. Plus he kind of reminds me of my old dog.

I have emotional attachments to Stitches, Wolfgang, Deirdre, and Tammi from my old town. Olivia too, but she moved out without me knowing.
I didn't want Agnes but fell in love with her.
The rest I picked from pictures on the wiki when I was deciding dreamies. They've changed a bunch, though.

A lot of them were just because of their design, but Sparro, Molly and Mira I have an emotional attachment to. They were all in my town once, and they were in for a looong time, and when they left they all sent me pictures

Jacques and Felicity I already loved from having them before, and the rest I chose based on design and whether or not they'd suit my town.

I always try to get at least one of each personality, but if I don't like a certain personality then I'll have that personality until I get all their pwps then kick them out and get a dreamie haha.
I usually just look up each of the personalities and pick the one I like the way they look the best, and then I usually have 2-3 spaces open still so I go back to my favorite personalities and double up until I have 10

Main Game: Walker, Octavian, Marina, Drift (filler dreamie), and Filbert I've all had in a previous game and loved. And then I decided on Zucker, because there are only 3 octopi, why not collect them all? Plus he's a lazy, and I love lazies. Vic and Molly were starters who I loved so much I never let move, and I got Marshal to see what all the fuss was about and ended up loving him.

Second game: It's a gold town, so it's going to have a mostly brown/yellow villager theme, lol. But I did pick them carefully. I hadn't had a snooty dreamie, and Ankha was the ultimate for a gold town, so she was first (and I love her now), and Deirdre I had in my main town but I let her move. And then Zell was a main town dreamie, but I accidentally TT'd him out, and I know I won't be able to cycle 16 for him in Cosmos. Some of the others I've had before, and some I haven't.

My dreamie list started off a lot bigger than it is now, and I've had to cut down on the size quite a bit lol. Most of them are either love at first sight (Tia, Marina, Fauna/Diana) or I started wanting them after seeing lots of screencaps of them in game/visited them in other towns and thought "wow, I want to see you every day." I have many villagers I have nostalgic attachments to, but I guess a part of me figures I already have them in my other games, why not spread out a little more in ACNL? So that's why all my dreamies are villagers I've never had before.

Started town. Fell in love with a few original villagers, namely Bones, Vic, and Pierce. Then decided to look up all the possible villagers. Wanted to be sure to have at least one of each personality, so narrowed down top two of each. Separated so each personality was a different species. Bam. Dreamie and back-up dreamie lists. The latter I hope I never need to use.

I just picked the ones I liked the look of most after looking at a list on the internet. Coco and Ankha are my favorite's. I'm not desperate to get my other dreamies - I want to experience all the villagers whether I like them or not. I'd hate to have the same villagers for a long time. I think I would get bored of them.
