How do you deal with hoarding with limited storage space?

I just start dropping things on my beach area. Eventually it starts looking crazy and is start gathering inventory piles and just mass sell to the Nooks Cranny box.
 
It's rough. Every couple of days my storage fills up. I had a lot of extra materials I didn't feel like I'd ever use so I recently sold like 900 or 1200 iron nuggets (sold in lots of 300 can't remember if it was 3 lots or 4) and 300 stone. Sold a bunch of branches to Nooks as I figured no one would want them. Clothing is my worst problem. Whenever I hit the limit I go through my clothing again.

I'm contemplating making a second character. I love decorating interiors and only have 1 room left to go in my house. Thinking of putting the house on my last cliff that's currently where I breed flowers and making them a witch. I already planned to eventually set up a witch area there so it'd work well. In New Leaf I had all 4 human residents and had decorated all houses except for 1 that was purely a storage character (they held my paths).
 
I sell anything that is re-orderable! I’m going to eventually create a second profile so I can have a themed house but just haven’t gotten round to it.. I’ve hit max capacity lots of times but it’s easy enough to get rid of/sell stuff...

I would instantly sell anything that's reordable especially clothing unless I feel I like I'm gonna use them for decorating areas. I honestly haven't gotten to the point of running out of storage, more so right now that I have four characters and each has max storage space. I couldn't even fill up my main character's storage. Right now, it's sitting at 400+ items filled out of 1600. If only could keep those spare flowers, bushes and trees that were planted, I would be glad.
 
I was selling things I wasn't using or throwing it randomly in my house... but I got tired of that and just made a second character. I'm going to store sets and make the house some kind of "shop" for my island.
 
every so often, i go through my storage and remove + sell a BUNCH of clothing i don’t wear. i find that i always buy too much clothing and most of it i don’t wear lol
 
I know that this isn't the right thread to ask.

If you have a second character, will it provide you another 1600 extra storage? (It's for my hoarding needs.)
 
I treat storage purely as a wardrobe.

If I'm not using furniture, and it can be reordered or made, then it goes.
 
I was keeping it all on beaches, then just tonight looked up how to get 5 stars and after burying all the supplies instantly reached it XD

have considered making a second file though for another house to store in
 
Well
  • I drop stuff on the floor
  • I have a spare character which holds some items
  • Sell stuff I can reorder
 
I keep having to empty my main character's storage, which is ALWAYS full of *just* clothes. I made an extra character for all the other things. Anddd.. their storage is 1400+/1600 already. Time to make another character XD
 
My basement is a diy workshop space so I place all my crafting supplies on the floor there. Usually I gift my furniture items that I can re-order to my villagers so my storage is mostly just clothes.
 
Whenever I hit max capacity I just go through each tab and remove any reorderable item/clothing I know I won’t need, use, or wear and I sell or trash them. Most of my storage space is taken up by crafting materials, clothing, and big fish/sharks. I could probably free up around 100spaces if I’d just sell my fish but I‘m stubborn and I want to wait for CJ 😔
