I can’t decide who I want anymore. Do you have set villager list and did you get the lm right away? Did you wait awhile before finding your permanent villagers. Do you meet a villager you were not expecting and changed who you wanted. I had a plan for my first island. It was going to an all penguin island. I knew I would take awhile because I wanted to have other villagers first. Now I’m not sure because it’s turning into a wolf/penguin island instead.
Right now my villagers are

Aurora
Wade
Hopper
Cube
Flo
Fang
Dobie
Whitney
Mint
Midge

Bringing in Sprinkle from my other town to replace Mint. Should I bring in Skye in replace Midge? When Midge asks to leave try and find Roald? Replace Cube with Roald since I have Wade ? I would have to island hop to try and get Roald. Skye is also on my second island. I know I’m over think this .

I have had so many permanent villagers leave.
Its a bit of a problem for me.

I've told myself I can have 2 villagers stay forever. The rest can leave if I ever want them to, but hopefully I never want them to.

Tybalt will never leave. I've yet to decide on the other one.

Go with your gut on this. If it feels right it probably is.

How I deal with letting someone I love leave is I buy their amiibo. That way if I ever regret it they can come straight back. And if I don't regret it... well they cost like £5 on ebay so whatever. Slowly building up a collection of my favourite villagers in the whole series.

The way I decide is, if there's a villager that instantly clicks with me, I keep them. If I have thoughts about letting someone go, I let them move and if I regret it, I try to find them again. For the most part, I have only ever regret letting one villager go and I had to go out and buy her amiibo in order to get her back.

I have let a few villagers go that I thought would be permanent. I let Apple go and thought I would miss her more. I was going to keep Mint by letting her move to my second island. I decided to let her go because I found Cleo for that island and she fits better. I have thought about getting more amiibo cards of my favorites an

That’s why I have changed my villagers. I thought I was going to keep Dobie and Fang for just a little while and now don’t want to let them go. I made an area just for them. That’s true , it’s easier then in new leaf to try and bring them back.

I love Dobie and Fang! I have Fang in New Leaf and Dobie was my second pick for cranky villager but I went with Octavian instead.

Having to cycle through 16 villagers in NL in order to get someone back was awful. I understand why they did it but it was just so many villagers to go through especially since they take a while to move out under normal circumstances.

I am still not sure who all my permanent villagers will be. Sometimes I find I do not get as attached to villagers i thought would be permanent and some of them I get more attached than expected.

I am also an over thinker, so i understand where you are coming from and I really want to figure out who will be permanent, but I am trying to let more villagers move out now so I experience more different villagers and have a chance to find my favorites.

like @Moritz , I am trying to get the amiibo cards of villagers I like who I let move, as a sort of back up/ insurance plan. But even without the amiibo you do really meet villagers again sooner or later, so nothing has to be permanent (I think Maggie will be moving back to my island someday, for example).

for me, not finding a set of permanent villagers right away is nice, it gives me more to do in the game, and keeps things exciting to meet new villagers. I think it is great all the people who plan to never have a full set of permanent villagers, but for some reason I do want to have permanent residents long term.

for your dilemma, I chose the last option. Full disclosure, looking at your residents it does look like you are now making a wolf and penguin island, which is great! I think sticking to a theme or rule for your island should always be less of a priority than choosing villagers you like and want around on your island. Cube seems like the best choice to be replaced in that case, since he is a duplicate type with wade.

I was also going for all penguins at first, but 4 out of 5 of starting villagers were just too perfect and I got attached. So now it's 6 penguins, and whoever else was lucky enough to meet me early on.

I like Octavian as well. Actually I like a lot of the cranky villagers. It was definitely harder in new leaf to get them back. They also left without warning. I get they probably wanted you to see more of the villages then just a select few,

Yea I’m finding I’m more attached to certain villages then others . I thought I would have had Apple longer. I overthink everything . That one oof the reasons I got a second island. This way I could keep a couple of villages a little longer. Then I found great villages for that island so Mint no longer gs a place to go. I love experiencing new villagers. I found Cleo for my second island. I was originally going to gave mint but Cleo fits better. I’m trying to get the Amiibos of the penguin villagers this way if I do let some up I can bring them back. If not amiibo I’m glad it’s easier to get them back on mystery islands. I didn’t want my permanent villagers for the first year. Some I found on mystery islands right away like Hopper. I was kinda thinking of letting cube go. I like wade a bit more and not a fan of Cubes house.

My favorite villagers are penguins. Which 6 did you pick for your island.

I think it's fine if you switch up your villagers every now and then. If you regret letting them go, you could always get their amiibos or adopt the villagers from someone here to avoid the pain of island hopping

I mean so far my island is Buck, Agnes, Beau, Erik, Raymond, Cube, Stitches, Freckles, Lucky, Avery.

I'm currently in the spot where im vibing with everyone and I don't want anyone to leave yet.
I feel like to me, my main stay people is Cube. As he was the first accf villager I met and Raymond because he's new.
Everyone else is kinda, I like but a potential replace and get back later.

I just kinda choose people on who I like and who I could get along with.

If you're thinking about replacing villagers with other villagers, chances are that in your mind you want to replace them. If you want Sprinkle, Skye and Roald then you should go for it.

As for me and how I choose villagers...its typically whether or not I have their photo and if I get tired of seeing them. I haven't changed out villagers since January so I've been fine with my current roster. However...I've also been saving lots of Nook Miles in the event that I decide to go island hopping again. I want a particular villager for my birthday that's coming up so chances are I'll be island hopping soon. To make room since I like all my current villagers, I also narrow down which one I won't miss the most. Erik's been on my island the longest so when he thought bubbles I'll probably let him go.

I have a few permanent residents in mind, though I'm not in a rush to get them all.

I tend to overthinking, too, but I've shifted my focus to enjoy the excitement of coming across new faces, especially when I brushed them off while looking through villager lists online. I've found there can be quite a significant difference between villager appearances in screenshots versus in-game, so I keep an open mind while island hopping.

I am holding onto four villagers for friends and forum members, so I'm quite eager to agree to move-out requests for other villagers, haha. Unless I'm still working on getting their framed photo. In that case, they're not yet allowed to leave just yet...

The only villager that I've let go and sometimes miss is Agnes, so I definitely look forward to the day of running into her again.

For your poll, I went with the last option, since you're thinking about replacing Mint and Cube, the latter of which is a duplicate species and personality type as Wade.

I have had some villagers that o regret letting go early. One was Cyrano because I never got his photo. The other Julian bit now I have his amiibo so can invite him to my second island. I just get stuck between wanting new villages and not wanting to let them leave.

I have a few dreamies I knew I wanted way before the game was even announced xD For the first set of personalities, I took what the game gave me, then I looked at personality lists to figure out if I wanted to replace any of them, realized I liked most of the ones I got enough to keep them, and since I have all but two of my dreamies as cards I'm only going to keep those two if I come across them while cycling through everyone else to unlock posters. The rest will come via campsite whenever I'm done.

Those are awesome villagers. I’m currently vibing with most of my villagers except a Midge. I like her but she will go when I get her photo. I like cube I just don’t know if his house fits. If I do let him go I could always bring him back. I keep forgetting it’s easier to bring back villagers.

I probably will end up switching Sprinkle and Skye from one island to other and trying for Roald on mystery islands.

I was planning on getting more villages photos before settling on my permanent. Then I started to see my permanent villagers on mystery islands so invited them when I saw them. I then decided I would try with a second island but have a hard time letting go of villagers.

Yea I think I will be letting Cube go and maybe I will see him in the future.

Yea I really need to get some penguin amiibo cards this way it wouldn’t matter if I let some of the go. My list from before the game came out keeps changing. I’m just glad it is easier to find villagers on mystery islands if I do let them go.

i went into this with a set villager list but it’s been tweaked a bit over the last year and i imagine that i’ll be continuing to tweak it for as long as i play aha. choosing which villagers to keep has always been hard for me but if i find myself asking “am i sure that i still want them?” in regards to a specific villager or i find a villager with the same personality that i like more, that’s how i know it’s time to let someone move out. hopefully this made sense lol. >_<

as for your dilemma, while i can’t vouch for cube, i can vouch for sprinkle and skye. i’ve had them both on my island for an extended period of time (sprinkle’s still there, actually) and they’re both amazing to have around so if you decide to stick with them, i don’t think you’d regret it. good luck!

I went through all of your poll choices thinking Skye < Sprinkle but then you had the last option stating you were looking at all 3 opposed to Cube, and it was a no brainer to vote for that.

I love Aurora over all of them though. I've had her since 2002 in my sister and I's town on Gamecube and she's still there. She's also in my NH island. It helps that I have her card #357.

Kiki’s been my only permanent resident so far (and funnily enough, she wound up being one of my rando early move-ins when I restarted earlier this year), but she’s always been my number one throughout the AC series. Otherwise, I try to keep villager around until I get their pic. This is especially true for villagers I don’t have/their isn’t an amiibo card for. If I have their amiibo card, I might let them go sooner.

Yea that makes sense, Figuring out villagers is hard for me since I want to keep them all. I wish we could have a few more. Sprinkle and Skye have been in my second island they were the first two I invited. I plan to keep them either way. They just seem fit Serenity’s theme better.

If I was keeping to all penguins I would keep Cube. I like having Skye and Sprinkle together. I like Cube but not his house. I figured his house would have the ice set like the rest of the penguins but it’s pastel.

Aurora has always been my favorite as well. I named my puppy after her. I got Aurora in my campsite a few days before I was bringing my puppy home.

Kiki is great , i only had WW. People get some great villagers when they let the game pick. I think the next time someone moves I might try a random move in on my second island. I usually try and get pictures of all my villagers before they move on. The only one I missed was Cyrano. I’m trying to get a few more Amiibo cards. Then I can wait a bit before bringing them in.

Before i just took who I like aesthetically, now I actually am thinking about whether they would fit my island theme or not but still should look aesthetically pleasing to me lol... Before I got villagers I wasn't planning on keeping but changed because I genuinely liked them like Lolly and Judy, but now I just started villager hunting again from my previous supposed to be "permanent" lineup and it was a breath of fresh air tbh... Only three from my original "permanent" lineup are actually permanent like Lily, Beau and Diana... I'd say just go with the flow on the villagers, like you could always just replace them and hunt for new ones again if you want
