How do you choose the gifts?

Some people don't want to give the villagers gifts. I give them a lot of gifts So now I'm wondering:
How do you choose the gifts?

Do you look at their current interior, the villagers colors, their hobby, personality, look at harvey's island which clothes fits best or do you not think about it and just give them random stuff?

For clothing gifts, I use the gift tool here- you can find gifts that fit their style perfectly! But I've also occasionally given gifts that I thought would look really cute- like I gave Chevre a Heart Apron that looked precious on her (I gave her to someone else when she moved, and she apparently still wears it, lol)
For furniture (I gift every villager 1 housewarming gift when they move in) I look up their house online and find what I think would look best. For instance, Julia moved in yesterday, and I have her a customized Aroma Pot (cream) which I think will look nice on her table.

Well, up until a couple of weeks ago I just kinda gave my villagers anything leftover I had (I didn't know that they decorate their houses with bugs) so I kinda have ruined a couple of houses but more recently I've been putting a bit more thought into what I give them. For example Ankha now wears a mummy outfit which I think looks superb on her, and Carmen is currently wearing a green dressing gown.
If I am broke I'll usually just gift them wrapped fruit though so my wallet doesn't take a hit, gotta save my money!

Yah, when I'm really working on building friendship, I give wrapped coconuts/exotic fruit. And when I'm trying to get their pics I use the stack method with coconuts. But when I want to give them a fun gift, I give clothing they'll like.
I also made some houses weird with fish/bugs Now Julian keeps harassing me to try and buy them out of my inventory, but I'm hoping to sell him at some point, so I'm like NOPE

You're welcome! I find it SUPER helpful. Also, from my experience, some of the best/cutest outfits for villagers tend to fall into their preferences, which is awesome~

EDIT: OH! And it's worth mentioning- if you're hoping to keep their houses "clean", if you give them enough clothing, they may start displaying it. Also, they always display hats (and I think glasses) for some reason. They'll still wear them occasionally but they'll also display it in their homes.

Ah nice website With furniture I really try to look at their furniture styles/colors or just what they like. Like the jocks get some sport stuff and Whitney gets a lot of fashionable things. Especcialy clothing which she proudly shows in her house haha. Really like it

I always give clothing! Just anything I find cute. I don't even bother with favourites hehe. I just hate when they put their clothing as furniture in their house I wish it would just stay in their closet.

I usually just gift clothing to my villagers. I love dressing them up. I try to stay within their style preferences. The only villager I give furniture to is Tank. He has a starter house so I like giving him workout equipment.

I give them stuff that I think fits their personality and looks good or would make a good addition to their house. Otherwise, I just give fruit.
I definitely give the most fruit followed by clothing then furniture.

I give them clothes based on what color I think looks the best on them or sometimes if I just think it fits their style. For example, I always give Merengue something red and Gayle gets pink. Bam gets athletic wear and Naomi gets kimonos or anything similar to one.

I choose gifts randomly, which mostly ends up being something I'm caring around in my pockets. Since I don't care if the houses of my villagers become 'unoriginal', I just gave them what I think would fit to them. If I don't have any furniture or clothes, I just give them fruits, here and there also a fish or bug (although I do take care kinda that they don't end up having a house full of fishes and/or bugs only. They should still own some furniture at least).

Ooh, I love giving my islanders gifts!

I do look at what they like and I try to give them clothes and hats that will look good on them or furniture and accessories that will complement what they already have in their homes. Claude, for instance, is one of my original 5 residents, so he has a starter home. I've gifted him furniture to make his home look more co-ordinated and cosy. To Tangy, I only give dresses. Her home looks perfectly furnished to me, so it doesn't need anything. Wolfgang gets magazines and books because he loves to read!

On a daily basis, everyone gets foreign fruit.

I only gift clothing and foreign fruit. For clothing, I look up preferred colors and styles and give from that. Some are easier than others - Flora, Lionel, and Filbert love everything I give them and put it into rotation. Dobie wears some things, Gruff does... eventually. Cherry is still a bit of an enigma.

Trying things out over on Harv's island is a good way to make sure something you want to give actually looks good on them.

I rarely give gifts unless it's a birthday...in which case, I consult the internet to see which are best. That said...sometimes I just see an item of clothing and think "oh, yeah...this would look cool on a specific character". So...sometimes I will randomly do that. But, it's not really something I think about otherwise.

If I give gifts it is just fruit normally as that doesn’t affect decor. On birthdays it has to be something they like.

I used this website before I decided I wanted to keep my villagers’ houses original. I keep it bookmarked just in case i change my mind or for when I want to give them an outfit.

I usually go to Harvey's island and try clothes on my villagers - whatever ones look the best, I'll give to them. I decide based on their colours, how it fits on the villagers (I never really gift Julian since clothes look really weird on horse villagers D: ) and what not. Just whatever I think goes with that villager.
