How do you catalog?

So I keep hearing folks talk about cataloging. I know about THE catalog in my Mart, but how do you catalog from other people? Do you just have to have the item in your inventory or something? Any info would be appreciated!

Pick up an item, then put it right back down. As long as it has been in you pocket at least once, it will then show up in your Timmy and Tommy Catalog Kiosk.
