How do y'all pick outfits for your villagers?

I typically just look up whatever villagers I have on my island right now and their gift guides as far as colors and styles go and just go by that, but I also like to mix things up, too. When it comes to determining what outfits look good on my villagers, I just go to Harv's Island and experiment a little bit to see what works for them and what doesn't.

I just picked some random clothes for Diana to wear as an example. Doesn't she look cute?

I usually pick clothing based on color and what color I think looks nice on them. If I’m not sure I will go to Harv’s and try it on them before I gift them.
Diana does looks adorable in that color.

I don’t give my villagers clothing. I do want to, tbh, but I don’t want to mess up their house (even though I could fix it by decorating their interior with HHP). I did give Rudy and Merry clothing though to go with my Dragon Age theme (medieval); but now that I’m thinking of changing it, I’m regretting that. I picked the variation of the outfit they are wearing based on their color preference. I gave Rudy a Warrior and Viking outfit, both brown. At one point I gave him a viking helmet but he displayed it in his house and never wore it; I didn’t want him to display it at all. Merry, I gave her a pink or red Renaissance dress.

I wanted to give Kiki a qr pattern outfit that I have downloaded but you can’t; also right now I’m glad that I didn’t give her anything since I’m hoping to redo my island eventually.

I try to match by the secondary colors in their design, and the types of clothes I think they would enjoy. ^_^ if I'm playing hhp, I also try to match it to the theme/vibes of the house

Secondary colors and whatever is complimentary to their main color are my go-tos. I'll pick out a bunch of them, gift them all, then wait and see which ones the villager ends up wearing on the regular.

I let my villagers wear whatever they choose. I don't care much for what they walk around in.

i just go to harv's and see what matches them. my island color theme is mute colors, kinda rustic if that makes sense? and more leaning towards earthy colors like brown and green, maybe gray. i keep that in mind when buying clothes for them from able's

Right now I don't think I can do too much except find out what they like and such, but so far it's going well. I think giving them stuff they like is more important than keeping an aesthetic.

I also give them some of the stuff I get from other villagers/balloons and that I wouldn't wear, if it doesn't make me happy it can make someone else happy

Like Dunquixote a few posts above, I don't gift clothing to my villagers because they usually just end up displaying it in their house instead.
