I've finally started actually planning my town the way that's effective for me, so I was just curious how other people have planned/are planning their towns. c:

The method I'm using is drawing out my map on graph paper. I used a custom design square tile to help me count and transfer it to the graph paper efficiently and correctly so that every tile on my map is represented on the graph paper. ^^ (I had to use 4 sheets of graph paper to be able to make it big enough.) Then I used the same square tile to find exactly where the Re-Tail, Town Hall, Police Station, etc, were so I can plan everything to the blade of grass (hypothetically).

Right now I have most of my PWPs planned out and have started to build them, and I picked general areas I wanted my villagers to move to, just so that doesn't look super planned. After my villagers move in, I'll plan where my paths will go and then do landscaping.

So how was your town planned or how are you planning your town!? ^u^

I just go with the flow. There's only one spot in my town that I have designated for a future PWP.

Only thing I planned out was where Villager's houses would be. Other than that I'm just going "I like the way this looks".

Omg I have so much respect for you for actually getting out the graph paper. I'm such a perfectionist - reading that made me really happy.

Anyways mine is not very well planned and has a lot of unused space as well as overly crowded spots (a bunch of villagers moved in like 1 tile from a cliff really early on). Basically I started by chopping down all the trees and replacing them with more organized/evenly spaced ones. Then I laid out paths to connect all the buildings, and put major PWPs in the really empty spaces. Finally I chose a colour scheme and bred hybrids accordingly. Kind of just played it by ear tbh. I wish I had thought ahead, but I'm too attached to it to restart now XD

I didn't really plan. I did manipulate house plots around my flowers but that's as far as it went. But even so I think my town actually turned out quite beautiful. Especially after doing some simple pathing. It's not the most intricate or beautiful town in the world but I'm still proud of how it turned out.

And given how often my older villagers refuse to move, I'd like to think they're happy too haha.

Yeah, I didn't plan anything. I didn't even know people put so much planning into their towns until I joined this forum. I just put things where I think they'd look good and go from there. I'm not someone who'd reset just because of one little thing, so it really doesn't matter.

I didn't really plan much until I started putting down paths in my town. After that, I cut down all my trees, adjusted the paths, planted fruit trees, placed some pwps, and now I've started planting shrubs and cedars. I'm also starting to lay down flowers and hybrids plots again.

@ams Aww your reply made me smile! <3 c:

Keep the responses coming, I love reading them all! ^^

I wrote out a semi-guide thing here if you wanna read through it.
Should have some useful tips in there for ya

Just keep trying new things in your town until you get things where you like it, and keep revising every area you have until you are out of ways to improve.

Paths should be one of the first things you lay down, and you can plot reset your dreamies to line up with the path.
Theres tons of ways you can plan your town, just try new things out and see how it feels!

I'm not really planning either because every time I plan something, it doesn't work. So, I'm going with the tried and true method: put stuff where it looks good. I never heard of plot resetting until like a week ago so all my villager's houses are all willy nilly. Let's see where the put stuff where it looks good method (or pswitlg method) leads us!

I'm not really planning, but I'm unhappy with the layout of trees I planted so I'm going to eventually work on that.

I'm a huge planner. I'm a perfectionist too. But most of all, I am impatient and lazy.

I planned out villager homes exactly at first. I laid down my basic paths and planned exactly where I wanted each house to by by putting down patterns where each house would go. I also had a plan for my cafe and third bridge, but those went away when Isabelle wouldn't let me put down a stupid bridge over the waterfall D: I decided not to plan out the majority of my PWPs until I had all or most of my dreamies.

About 4 hours into plot resetting for my first dreamie, Fauna, I gave up on making it EXACT and just made it line up with the path. Phoebe, Freya, and Peanut each got put into an exact spot based on sheer luck. But when I accidentally loaded my mayor when plot resetting for Erik, I gave up on exactness. Fortunately he landed in a decent spot, in line with my paths but where I was planning on putting the cafe once the first plan didn't work out. So now my only 2 criteria when plot resetting is that villagers can't have a path accommodate them/leading nowhere and they can't interrupt my paths. I like them to be lined up with the paths but that's not as big of a deal anymore.

Now that I have 8 of my villagers moved in and am currently plot resetting for my 9th, I'm starting to plan out some areas of my town. I have an idea for where I'm going to put my campsite, in an area where I'm going to make it really forest-y and natural, and I have a place for some trees, single-tile paths and "rivers" (patterned rivers) to go in town to give it a more interesting look. But I do it all in game based on what looks good when I'm looking at it as I play. I may be a huge planner, but when it comes to ACNL, I just like to play it by ear.

But when I accidentally loaded my mayor when plot resetting for Erik, I gave up on exactness.
Damn... that sucks... sorry to hear that... Every time I see Isabelle when plot resetting I scream 'NO' and shut it down. That's rough.

This game is pretty much torture for OCD perfectionists, isn't it?

Heh. Planning.

I favour a more organic approach, so I kept most of my original trees and let villagers plot (mostly) where they may. Drago was the only one I reset for, because I specifically wanted a dragon who lived by the sea... snrk. Especially one living close to 'Holmes' house'.

(Ehehehehehehehehe. I crack myself up~)

It's turned out very nicely. Muffy's plot landed in a surprisingly perfect place, and there are several long streets that I think are fantastic. Baker's aesthetic is very nice indeed.

All i've really planned so far is my fruit orchard and my lighthouse (which I hope gets requested soon...)

I don't do much ;o just take a picture of my map and try to organize it as well as I can qq lining up houses/buildings and such owo/ I plop pwps wherever I see fit.

I found these designs on tumblr that said stuff like flower and tree on them. Then I cut down all my trees and used the patterns where I thought the greenery would look nice. Over the years, I replaced the patterns with greenery and plants.
I'm at the beginning though due to resetting my town.
