How did you plan out your town?

I really didn't know what I wanted to do with my resetted map, such as villager house placements and PWP placements. I was only focused on getting a decent town map lol.
Luckily, my map is this:

I originally thought of having some kind of foresty path going down the narrow left strip of land, but then I realized that there was enough space to place two houses side by side (plus three spaces in front/behind each house), with paths going down them. It was going to be really difficult to plot reset them into the places, so I set up temporary PWPs all around my town. I only need 2 more Dreamies to get and plot reset ;w;

My friend came over and helped me with some decisions, such as placing the Cafe, the villager lane, and picking the town name lol

I would say definitely have a planned place where you want the cafe and police station and campsite to go, because if you end with an annoying spot for one it can be a town deal breaker

I took a screenshot of my town map and then laid it all out on a grid in photoshop. I have separate layers for bushes, flowers, trees, pwps, houses, everything! LOL. So before I start landscaping in my town, I open the file first and plan it out there because it'll be easier to imagine what it'll look like + I can move stuff around so it saves time (for me) on making mistakes. 8)

I am an ultimate planner lol! I planned my town within an inch of its life. Firstly I made sure to pick a map I loved, and I was pretty fussy even with that! I had to have Apples as the native fruit, a secluded spot for my house, preferably town hall/station close (which I got) Southern facing Waterfall and a private beach!

After knowing my map was exactly how I wanted it I would constantly circle the town, figuring out how much room PWP's would need, where they would suit and look best, then I put down patterns so I knew where they would go in the future.

I also have patterns down for my dirt paths so I know exactly where I want them to go, and I won't get rid of the patterns until I have all my dreamies and can start landscaping for real.

I also have all my villagers set up all together so my life has become plot resetting and PWP blocking (and I would like to think I've mastered it but something always seems to go awry :/)

I think it's my career (I'm a Graphic Designer) that makes me such a perfectionist with this game but I love it, and I really can't wait to add an item in my house or change around a flower garden pattern, so I know that the planning out my town from the very start means I love it that much more!

Just made whatever looked nice, I started by putting a hallway of trees and streetlamps in front of my town hall and went from there. Fortunately for me I made everything work as far as where villagers lived and didnt have any bad ones....yet. I'm halfway done with getting the villagers I want and I'm trying to leave empty spaces for them and its working so far, or im just lucky.

my map is very simpler to yours! my river shape is exactly the same O.o, right now to the puddle next to retail, the same shape and size as mine .-. but my river is in a different place (higher up) and buildings of course are in different areas, but i like your map better! i would reset but i have got 3 dreamies and i'm not going to loss them... oh well....

I didnt plan out my first town
I only took in account of how close Plaza/ Retail were to the station
But the 2nd one I planned out a bit better, I took in account of where Pounds were ( Like I made a in my head path system) Retail and my train station were right near train station.
but other than that I kinda just went with it, Trying to make sure I had a big area for PWP's I really like my town at the moment c:
BTW: How do you people take screenshots of your lower screen?

This is just my opinion!, But Since you only have 3 dreamies You could probably get someone to hold them easily!
TBH getting dreamies is probably the one of the easier things to do in acnl ^^ theres so many cyclers.
I would like to reset but I would hate to lose all my hybrids/ Redo my paths,I also got some nice PWPs placements also ;_;
Plus my items I got cataloged would be lost too. Thats just my opinion ! I dont know if what other factors you have, But just 3 dreamies can easily be held c: ( Heck I could probably hold 2 of them for you)

This is my town, Merengue moved in the middle of my path instead of the little pink area I had marked :c Went through my path so sad ;_;

I knew the layout I wanted before I started, so I reset a LOT until I got it (Blue Town Hall/Train Station, vertical ramps to beach, waterfall facing south, not too many lakes, decent sized area to build a forest). Once I had that, I figured out where the cafe/police station/other characters houses were going to fit in, and then put down my paths.

I'm trying to keep villagers in the 'town' on one side of the map, which means a decent amount of plot resetting. There's been a random void move in that went in a bad spot, and I'm waiting for another villager to move out from in front of Town Hall (he was one of the initial villagers).

I just do all my planning in game, nothing too fancy. I've just put down a bunch of placeholder patterns in the spots where I know I want trees/bushes, and that makes life a lot easier.

In my 2nd town I am planning to do a themed town. What theme? No idea. I am looking at all the pwps and then decide a theme. I have as theme for example ''Sky'' you build the town and decided to place pwps. well there are no pwps fitting in a sky theme. So I am looking at the pwps first before deciding the theme.

My profile name is Fairytale, so I guess it's funny to do that as a theme with the fairytale pwps. There are only 4 fairytale pwps.. Well.. I am going for Fairytale/girly theme and I want a 1 species town so only squirrels for example. Need to find a map first.

I've never really had a placement plan for my town. The only thing I've ever planned for my town to be is outer space themed and to have my dreamies. Other than that, I just go with the flow when it comes to PWPs and landscaping. I just put down what I think would look good in that area.
