how did you choose your island name?

Mine is pretty easy. I just have to use the same name from New Leaf. I am sure most people here possibly went for that.

hyoryu means drifting/floating, and tbh that's my current state in life right now.

i based it from a part of one of my favorite books that really resonated with me because of how accurate it is:
  • “The way you write ronin is 浪人 with the character for wave and the character for person, which is pretty much how I feel, like a little wave person, floating around on the stormy sea of life.” ― Ruth Ozeki, A Tale for the Time Being
i read this book years ago, but i can still relate to it so much

Here’s my reason

My island Fireleaf is named after my New Leaf town. I came up with the name Fireleaf when I was waiting at a bus stop during winter. It was unbearably cold since this is Canada, so I had the thought "what if I made an AC town and filled it with torches?" I never actually unlocked the torch PWP in New Leaf but I like the name so I decided to keep it in New Horizons.

I'm gonna go with both my town and my island. Leybaki (my island) was named in a discord server! Someone on the crossing channel discord server was saying a bunch of island names trying to help someone else (it wasn't me) decide on a name for their island before the game launched. They said "Letabi" and i actually really liked it. I made a poll in the chaotic chat saying "Should i use Leytabi or Horizons?" and everyone chose "Leytabi" and yes i did misspell it but i preferred "Leytabi" anyway. Cut to like a day before the game came out and i said something like - well i forgot but i misspelled it as "Leybaki or whatever it was called" immediately after i replied "Leybaki is my new island name." Now for my 3 towns! 2 of them are defunct i only have 1 copy of NL
Lilytown was made in a rush. it was just a combonation of "Lily" my mayor name, and :Town"Pretty unoriginal and a bit narcissistic.
Blossoms was - Well i found someone on this forum with the name "Blossom" as their town name and i wanted that name so i added an s.
ALL THE VERSIONS OF Valley were, well, i had no ideas so i just went with "valley"

I panicked and named mine "Coral Key" because of my coral switch lite! I was thinking I'd make my island coral colored but it really clashed with the furniture options so I decided on pink instead. I still think the name is cute, though!

I wanted something that reminded me of both super mario sunshine and pikmin, with a summer feel lol. So my island is named Sundrop.

Super simple, but I still like it after a few months.

In my NL game I chose the name "New Leaf". Very uninspiring and bland, I know but that was the point. In this game, I decided to name my island "New Island" to go with this trend.

My New Leaf town was the first that I put any thought into. I wanted a musical term and eventually happened across "poco," as in poco a poco, "little by little." Also, in Pikmin, the currency is called Pokos, so that was also a nice reference.

I wanted to continue that trend of thoughtfulness in this game too, and it was so hard to think of a musical term that worked with this game that I was happy with. For a while I was going to go with Rondeau, as in rondo form, and the island's slogan would be something about how you keep coming back, but in the end I couldn't do it.

Then I thought a lot about what this game was about. Starting from nothing, crafting huge projects out of smaller pieces. Finally I decided upon Solfège or Solfeggio, the name of the system of using "do, re, mi, etc." and I couldn't think of anything that matched the crafting-island-startingfromnothing vibe more. After deliberating and choosing between the two... Welcome to Solfège 😬

Wow this post got away from me sorry it's so long haha
