How Did You Choose Your Dreamies?

This has no doubt been asked, and I can almost bet I've asked it before. However, I'll be starting a new town soon and was debating villagers when my curiosity was piqued.
Do you base it on looks? Houses? Long time favorites? Themes?

I tend to start off by making categories for each personality type. Then I view house exteriors, one personality type at a time, and list my favorites. Then I go back and narrow it down to one per personality type. Of course that leaves two left over, so I tend to just pick two villagers with a personality that requests the PwP's I want the most xD

Sometimes I base my choices on house style, sometimes colors, sometimes both. Usually it depends on my town theme. Like, for my main town the theme is very fairytale, so the villagers mostly have colorful, whimsical looking houses. However, for the new town I'm imagining something more rustic, like earth-toned bricks or cottages. c:

I don't do dreamies, but I choose my villagers based on their house location, personality, gender (so it's 50/50) and how much I like their appearance. I get my villagers from either the campsite or random move-ins.

That's what I've mostly done with my second town. Only three villagers were invited to the town, and only because I wanted to make sure I got a personality type to replace one that moved out. I didn't pre-pick those, either, just found some being offered on the forums and jumped on it lol

I might put a bit more effort into it than is necessary, to be honest lol! Sometimes I'm less detailed about it. I have a couple of villagers that I fell in love with before that I tend to want in at least one of my towns. Like Deirdre and Skye are my absolute favorites, so they're both in my main town. Before I got my own copy of ACNL I played my ex-boyfriend's, and the town I made had Deirdre. My first time seeing her and I adored her. The Pokemon X/Y came out so he started playing that and I made him promise to check on Deirdre so she wouldn't move. She ended up moving b/c he time traveled for Pokemon and I didn't speak to him for an entire evening LOL. I'm serious about my villagers, I guess.

I think it's adorable that you have villagers with a bit of white in their coloring! I may visit your DA, c:

I understand! I'll oblige by your wishes, haha. I had a town that a friend wanted me to make a DA of, but I never did because it was never ready imo

Ooooh, do you have DA's for any of them? I'm really interested in Fall themed towns lately because I've never actually made a town that suited the fall season. I've always focus on spring/summer. I'm considering changing that with a third town soon, though

That's true! I took a hiatus from Tumblr for a while, the acnl community there always has such remarkable ideas and inspirational towns~

I love that! They all really do seem to have their own personalities that really come out as you get to know them! Colton in my game seems like a real 'ladies man', but he's the only Smug villager I've ever had who's come off that way xD

I picked a few of mine because I had them in my Wild World town when I was younger. So I was already pretty attached to them before I started playing acnl! The rest I picked because they looked cute haha. In Deirdre's case though, she was one of my first villagers in my previous town, and I grew really attached to her and never let her go! I restarted my town, and I'm more or less looking for the same villagers this time around.
The interior of their house is a big factor for me too! I'm going to visit their houses a lot if I plan to keep them long term, so they might as well look nice from the get-go haha

For my main town that's Pokemon themed, the dreamies I picked are all based on Pokemon themselves. It was a difficult process to pick only 10 but I wanted to make sure they all had the following requirements:

1. The villager must somewhat look like the Pokemon I'm aiming for them or at least close in species.
2. 8 of them would belong to one of the four human characters in my town (2 villagers/Pokemon for each trainer/human, including the mayor). Because of this set-up, the final 2 were very difficult to choose because I still wanted them to follow the Pokemon theme.
3. Their greeting and catchphrase were to based off of a Pokemon attack/theme and species of Pokemon the villager is representing. This was the most difficult aspect to maintain because the game makes it so easy for them to steal each others' catchphrases. It's a shame their greeting doesn't transfer through for dream addresses. ;^;

Their houses was the thing I looked at the least in terms of choosing. Originally, I was going to decorate each of their houses but it's so time consuming and it's a shame you can't change their wallpaper/flooring. I'm still decorating their houses little by little or restoring them to their original state (way easier said than done).


As for my second town, I was going to do a historical/medieval theme but I found myself getting uninterested after getting dreamies I thought I wanted. Now it's slowly starting to become a free range town with no theme to make my life easier. I heavily based my decision on their design and houses before going free range.


So yeah, it's been quite... the process haha.

I usually just choose villagers I really really love, and I also looked through this list to help me find new ones.
