How did this even happen??

So, today I was playing, and I went into a villager's house, and found this item sitting on her table.

that's weird!! I don't think anything like that has happened to me. I thought you had to sell or gift furniture to villagers for them to display new things in their house :0

She might've bought it off-screen, sometimes my villagers do it.

Villagers usually have items that's not in their rooms, or that you can see.
What probably happened is that they got it recently, or just put it out.

Villagers can gift to other villagers. When two of them leave a conversation happy they can exchange shirts, furniture. I have seen it happen. Unless you have Coco in your town. Then your town is haunted and that is a haunted clock she has there. Have fun, sleep tight.

That clock does look kinda creepy. Next time you're at her place, I suggest you try to buy it from her, then throw it away in the ocean while sailing to the island.

If it's still there the next morning, you should move to another town

This happened with Genji in my town. He all of a sudden has a bishop (chess piece) in his house. I definitely didnt give him it and it wasnt in retail either.

All i know is it ruins his house >.<

That is creepy though. I don't pay attention to my villager's rooms enough to know what they bought off re-tail or not. I never send them gifts either :/

My villagers almost never speak to one another, so I've gotten lucky I guess. >>

When you are playing more than 5 minutes a day, villagers start talking to each other. They don't just change their frases or shirts, they even change their furniture.
