Lopez came to me today and asked to move and I agreed, then I went to visit the campsite villager and it was Midge who I thought I'd like to move in. I remember hearing stories of the camper and villager moving doesn't always work, so I opted to close the game without saving but when i reloaded, I did not talk to Isabelle (this all happened as soon as I got on today), meaning there was a save somewhere. I think there was some way to tell by a second character (don't have one, but rather avoid). Is there a way that can tell me Lopez is still moving? I don't want to cause any issues when trying to move Midge in. (Midge was going to replace someone other than Lopez).

Talking to him a lot. He should have dialog about preparing to move. I believe other villagers can also mention the incoming move so it wouldn't hurt to spam everyone on your island with conversations. That's the only idea I have. I don't think there are other ways to check.

This helped! Talked to him again and he immediately mentioned about moving away. Well, looks like I'll have to let Midge for now. Oh well.

I think it's fine that Midge moves in now. The problem comes when you have 2 villagers in boxes the same day

Today: Lopez askes to move, Midge picks someone to move and they are in boxes today
Day 2: Lopez in boxes, Plot is marked sold to Midge
Day 3: Lopez's plot is empty for a mystery islander, Midge is unpacking
Day 4: Midge is moved in completely, new islander is unpacking

did midge ask to move in

Not yet.

Oh really? Maybe I was confused on this then. I think about it then. I wouldn't want to run into any problems, but this sounds like there won't be any.

if you're at 10 villagers you can talk to midge to see if she'll kick out a villager to replace them. she may or may not suggest kicking out Lopez and put him in boxes the same day, or you can kick out another villager instead

There would be a problem if Lopez was in boxes today to move out and Midge asks another villager to move. Lopez would stop moving out and the other villager would be in boxes.

Alternatively, cause I think you already told Lopez to move. You could have asked Midge to move in today, not talk to Lopez. Tomorrow, the game rolls for someone to move out, could be Lopez or some other villager.

Midge would replace another villager other than Lopez. If she's going to suggest Lopez, then I just say no and restart.
