How are people getting new items?

Any hacked item has the risk of being 'glitchy', and are completely unpredictable in what they do. Honestly, if you even see these items, leave as soon as possible.

Yeah, it's primarily the issue that you don't know under what means these items have been spawned in-game. Malicious intent, accidentally setting a value too high, or genuinely safe? You have no idea. It's very risky. The time to safely obtain these items will soon come, and it'll be a safe and fun time!

Also, don't accept wrapped presents from people; some hackers wrap lost items that can't be removed from your inventory.

Can someone explained how the hacked items can corrupt your save file? I cataloged them from someone for free not knowing they were hacked, but they appear just to be regular items that show up in your catalog?

I usually play the game in real time, but I had so much trouble getting the fall DIYs, that when I saw someone tweet they were letting people come catalog the Christmas stuff, it seemed much more convenient to just get it now than deal with the rng or color locking later.

From someone who has extensively read GBAtemp forums from the people who directly edit their saves, or just add stuff to their inventories, there has been no solid evidence as of yet. There was one **Facebook post from someone who received star frag trees, but it was soon removed; also still very unclear as to what actually happened. I transferred over wedding items to my unhacked Switch Lite before the event was unlocked, and everything was fine. *I hosted weddings on my island. My friends kept their outfits. Everything has been fine. You can't trust just anyone who will intentionally make items fritz out, because they might also try to give you stuff that will stay in your inventory forever. Thankfully though, there isn't anything worse, and no one (at least on the major forum for save editing n stuff) is working towards making destructive items and tools. It is beyond discouraged. I don't even know of anything game-breaking that happened in New Leaf...

Cataloging things is all good. Nintendo can't detect that items from your catalog were cataloged from hacked items.

EDIT: Also important to state: I am in no way condoning any hacking-related trading on here. I am not and will never offer or provide anyone items that have been transferred from my other Switch. Just wanted to make that clear!

That makes sense. I agree with everyone saying "better safe than sorry", I was just thinking of the difference between these items (which are actual in-game items that are just time-locked) vs. things like star frag trees (which were never intended to be in the game).

Thanks for your help everyone! Now I know to just wait. I’m sure too once the events happen and December 1st comes people will time travel to collect all the items and colors so I’ll wait until then and just buy or catalogue the unpacked items at that point

Can someone explain how the hacked items can corrupt your save file or is there a specific instance of this happening to someone? I cataloged them from someone for free not knowing they were hacked, but they appear just to be regular items that show up in your catalog? This seems different to me than things like star trees, which are something that was never technically in the game, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding something. I don't currently have a dream address, if that matters.

I have been curious about this too and looked up more about it online. From what I understand there's a tiny, tiny chance of your save file being corrupted if it's an item not meant to be in the game. If it's an item coming to the game, you're pretty much safe. I do understand people wanting to be on the safe side though just in case. Losing your save file would be a huge deal, but it's definitely not something common with any hacked items.

Didn't they patch this in a recent update? I remember hearing about that and how we're all clear to accept wrapped presents again.

Good grief, people really cannot just wait, they got to hack the items in? 🤦‍♀️

These items have been hacked. They are not yet available. We have been removing threads selling them here on TBT, so please give us a hand by reporting any you see. Thank you. :)

Thank you for not allowing people to make profit using hacked items. :)

You got it exactly!!

I hope it's been patched! I will look into it. Thank you for sharing.

I just recently became aware of the fact that these items are hacked, and I'm just like... imagine not being able to wait ~1 month to get the new items. Time traveling is one thing, and it's fine to do, but hacking time locked items just kind of scares me. You never know what they're gonna do to your game, y'know? On the flip side, I think it's kind of weird that they're making us wait until Thanksgiving to decorate for Thanksgiving.

But back on topic, yes-- the only way to get (most) new items is via hacking. I think the exceptions right now are the falling-snow wall, stockings, sunflower rug, seashell rug, festive rug, and yule log, which are obtainable through time travel/mail.

This is my thought too. I think a lot of people want to get the items early (at least that was my motivation) because Nintendo makes it difficult to get them normally (fall DIYs) or gives them to you too late in the season where you don't get much use out of them. I'm just now getting to craft fall items and it's going to be winter next week.

Yeah I feel like nintendo should have given us an option to get thanksgiving DIYS before thanksgiving. At least with halloween we were able to get some diys from villagers crafting weeks before halloween. I mean they still made it so you had to get a few on halloween day but at least it wasn't all of them, and it wasn't time locked.
I don't like them trying to force me to decorate on the day of thanksgiving or after thanksgiving. It's just not my idea of fun, and I'll be focusing most of my attention on family that day anyway.

I get that people want to have the decorations early so they decorate ahead of the holiday, but I can also see why Nintendo doesn't have it set-up that way. If they release the items like a month in advance, people will just get everything within a few days. Then on the day of the holiday which is supposed to be special, there would be no excitement or surprises. I suppose a compromise would be they could add even more stuff on that day so it would still be special and keep it time locked, but release some items at the start of the month to keep people satisfied.

I dunno, I've got no problem waiting even though it isn't the most ideal in terms of decorating. I will just leave up my decor longer than usual. A lot of the items can be used all year long anyway. :)

In new leaf people used to alter any item to clog up pocket space. Is it just limited to the lost items now? I've also read about players gifting a hacked bridge building kit to a villager on their birthday, that results in corrupting the data of the host.

I'm not surprised that it's hacked since there is so many hackers on splatoon 2. And l won't be surprised if those players also hacked AC.

that's scary. l think l would only play online with TBT players then.

I was very confused because my friend sent me items that was suppose to be for Toy Day. He told me that somebody hacked into the Switch and gain access to the items.

I saw someone inviting people over to catalog some Toy Day furnitures. I was skeptical at first since @Rosch shared information about them being locked away.

In the end, the thread magically disappeared. (I guess someone might have reported it.)

Honestly, I just want to get those cute dollhouses!

I wonder how Nintendo has not realize there is a hacking issue going on because they are against hacking.

Nintendo is aware, but there is nothing they can do about gen 1 switches. The loophole isn't able to be patched out.

What do you expect them to do about it?

Hacking.

I managed to catalogue all the new toys through catalogue parties on Reddit.
People then buy what they've cataloged, and some let other people catalogue from them.
Thats how the items spread fast.

I'm pretty excited for the dining table and chairs furniture as well as the pot since one corner of my living room is empty with just a fireplace and some plants and would make a perfect little dining area, but as much as I want it I'd personally much rather wait until it's available in the game than get a hacked item. And in this case it was only a matter of waiting a little over a week or so. But I can understand why people would want the hacked items too - the turkey day furniture would be hard to get if you're busy on the 26th and don't know people who can send some to you, and the toy day stuff is just so cute! But if you can, I'd suggest waiting.

I'm glad someone asked this question! I saw everyone sharing photos the other day and whenever people asked the answer was just "Oh catalog parties".

I'm going to stay away from them until they're naturally unlocked.
