how are NL players who loved the modern/tech furniture items handling NH? lol

asking because i am one of these!

i loved every single modern/futuristic/sleek tech furniture piece and public work project and while i hope that we get some more of these items/customizations in NH's future, i'm at a bit of a loss for how to decorate my own island, right now. i keep wishing for things we don't have/trying to design and just can't. what have other people who also love the futuristic/sleek/simple/modern style done with the game so far? any recommendations on towns to dream of or anything?

ie: these are some of the things i am talking about! but also the sleek series, some of the mad scientist set, the astro house customizations, all the WA glass items, etc

I’m in the same boat. I’ve postponed decorating my house for this very reason. I’ve improvised and substituted some items as best as I could like using the zen stones for broken pillars. I couldn’t really substitute anything in my house since the rooms were too small and i don’t like any of the beds except for luna’s bed (want it to be a double bed) and the imperial bed with gold sheets (doesn’t go with my theme or ideas).

I miss those space holographic items, though if we had them, I wouldn’t have come up with some ideas I came up with when trying to find a substitute for them like the fade rift (something from Dragon Age Inquisition) I made with heavy use of lighting along with other furniture.

The lack of mannequins and armor suits are among the most difficult to substitute. I loved the black, silver gold variations from HHD (I loved everything from HHD). But, if these weren’t missing, I wouldn’t have thought to use the warrior statues for what I would have used the armor suits for - to represent templars, soldiers and other npcs.

The food items were harder to substitute, so I had to leave some stalls empty or just temporarily put something else on it.

I actually have gotten more done with my island than I thought I would with the limited furniture options and some of the ideas weren’t ones I had planned at all. The ones that I had planned are the ones that have empty space because of not having the furniture that I had thought we’d have.

For me, the problem is now is finding more inspiration to work with what we have. I did manage to make a few big areas with it, but since I’m trying to make my island look unique and interesting while sticking to my ideas/theme, it is quite a difficult task since I realize that after awhile to some people, some designs start to look very alike and I can’t help but feel there is only so much I can do with what we have either way.

I could go on about what items I miss but I’ll stop here since I really don’t want to make my post into a complain/whine fest. Inspite of these limitations, I am still enjoying the game. :) I just look at the lack of content as a big waiting game, test of my patience and a challenge (coming up with ideas that only use the current furniture we have). I do really hope they bring bad some if not all of the sets and some new sets.

This is my problem. I have so many ideas I want to theme like I have done in NL or wanted to, but now I can't because they may never come back. And so I decide to do a little something and realize everyone else is probably doing this 'something' I am trying. I don't care if my idea has been done before, but when we're all pooling from the same small resources and I can't really theme the way I want to (yet or never) I lose interest/motivation.

The lack of furniture is New Horizons' biggest flaw, in my opinion. It's not just modern-looking items that are missing, also fairy-themed and fancy decorations are nowhere to be found in the game- I think practically everyone has realized that at this point. As much as I'd love to see what people would create on their islands with futuristic items, I have to admit that, for me, the worst part of it is that we don't have anything apart from the antique set to decorate our islands in a fancy or elegant way. Even though I'm really enjoying the game and I'm sure they will add more furniture sets and probably even bring back some if not all the furniture series that we saw in previous games (rococo and gorgeous series, I'm eagerly waiting for you), I can't stop wondering about why Nintendo took the decision to temporarily (I hope, at least) limit items' variety in a game which focuses so much on personalization.

The thing is they had a theme for everyone out there. We can only hope NH brings most if not all of them back. I still haven't decorated my entire house. Most are just empty rooms.

Don't give them any ideas. This game is already $60, by the time it's over it could be $200 or more if you want everything back.
Same, in ACNL I had so many ideas that even 4 characters wasnt enough for all the rooms I wanted to do, here I barely have 2 fully decorated rooms :(

My house is pretty sparsely decorated because I've just run out of creative ideas (especially with the new room sizes). I loved the whimsical furniture from New Leaf (like the sweets set) and the luxurious stuff as well (like the princess & gorgeous sets).

I feel like New Horizons is really aimed at creating a cottage core, natural, island escape kind of vibe, which is cool and all, but I wish we had the option to explore other vibes if we wanted. I really dislike that so many months after release, we have no idea whether we will ever get the possibility to really experiment with our town again.

I guess they were focusing on outdoor furniture as well? This is the first game with such a focus on outdoor decorating after all- so maybe to get that we had to sacrifice our home decoration options.
That being said, my ACNL house had the modern exterior and was all modern furniture- and my favorite sets were modern wood and sleek so you can guess how I feel on this topic lol

I miss the rococo, gorgeous, and alpine. I am also unhappy with th e sofas. There's only a few to chose from. I also miss the covered wagon, cactus, and tumble weed.

The lack of furniture variety is for sure disappointing, especially compared to New Leaf. I've noticed it makes it harder for islands to be unique, a lot of them just kinda give the same vibe. I'm hoping they add a bunch of stuff in an update similarly to NL's Welcome Amiibo.
