How accurate are guides on the internet?

While trying for my dreamies I'm trying to do my research online for the best ways to do things (I am prone to messing things up when I dont...). Ive noticed, however, that there's a ton of conflicting opinions out there about various things.

For example, I just read on nookipedia that villagers won't move in if there's patterns covering the entire ground, but I remember reading in the past that they will move in over designs if you don't leave them any space. So which one is it?

Are there any guides out there that stand out as being more accurate than others?

None that I've found.
It's all trial and error.

It's best to hear from people who have had different experiences.

One thing I've learned, is nothing is set in stone.

If you leave a few 3x3 spaces, with a space for the door, making sure there is a space all around that (total 5x5 but only lay tiles around the 3x3), you should be ok.

It's always safer to plot reset, as I have had villagers move onto tiles when there has been a couple of previously lived on plots available to them.

They will move over QR codes if there's no room for them. As for the most accurate guide, I'm not entirely sure. I use a combination of all of them since they aren't consistent across the board. My advice for you would be to make sure you ask people before you do something you're not entirely sure about. Chances are someone here has done it already and can give you the advice you're looking for.

Well Thats good information to know. Thanks folks. You probably saved my 3ds from a fate of being angrily smashed against a wall. That could've been bad.

Yeah, I generally find the bell tree to be the best place for accurate information anyways.

I?m an accurate guide! :lemon: well, not for EVERYTHING, but...

villagers do move on top of paths. after you said that, i don?t think nookipedia is reliable. i usually use the animal crossing wiki and myself for information.
i used to use thonky a lot but some people have said it has false information.

click here for the animal crossing wiki

feel free to pm me questions about acnl, i?ll probably be able to answer

As of the Welcome Amiibo update, villagers are unable to move onto patterns, unless there are no available spaces in your town. In that case, they function the same as they did before the update.

It's amazing which spots the game considers an 'open spot', I've left one open spot (4x4) for someone to move into but they kept moving onto paths and not into the spot, or on the edge of the spot, also on qrs. Sometimes the game seems to not 'see' open spots.

Just to get an accurate understanding: By qr codes, you mean patterns that you got with a qr reader, or do you mean patterns in general, including ones you have made?

That must have been aggravating!

Do you have a picture of the spot? Maybe there was a rock in front of it. Villagers are extremely finicky when it comes to things in front of their house.

Yes, sorry I didn't clarify properly! I do mean patterns in general. Any design you put down on the ground, regardless of if you made it or scanned it, they won't move over that design/path, unless the game feels "it has no choice".

They do!
They've moved onto patterns several times, when I've had several previously lived on plots available.

Please don't post that they don't, right after you've seen me post that I have had them do it in my town.

I don't make these things up.

I don't want people to make the mistake of assuming they won't move onto patterns, even when valid space is available, because sometimes, they just do.

I guess I've been lucky then as the last ~10 villagers have set up shop exactly in the spaces I've provided for them. It may be possible that you missed placing a pattern somewhere or accidentally kicked something up without meaning to. I know that I've had a few mishaps with that as well, though I've got all those pesky holes patched up now and it's been smooth sailing from there :)

No.
I didn't, and as stated many times, the plots I left plus door space were previously lived on.

There were no mistakes.
They just move onto patterns sometimes.

Plot resetting is the only 100% safe way to get your villager where you want them.

I get tired of people doubting and assuming I haven't left the plots, when I know that I clearly have, and I have to keep repeating my posts instead of people actually reading it, word by word, the previously lived on plots were available. :(
