So all my friends have been telling me to get into something called homestuck.

(do you all think I'm an idiot yet?)

and I'm curious.

What is it?
What is it about?
Am I an idiot for not knowing?
Is it a fandom worth getting involved in?

(PLZ HALP) ; A;

It's a webcomic that you can find on MSPaintAdventures.

It's...alright. The fandom is better than the comic itself.

It's an interesting read. I've enjoyed reading it and can hardly wait to see how it ends. It's a little hard to get into during the first couple acts but I still got through it.

Oh yeah. Before reading Homestuck, read Problem Sleuth first. It's fantastic. ^^

Can anyone see this post? I'm flppin' a little because the site doesn't appear to be registering it.

What is it about? A video game that destroys Earth and brings together a group of humans and aliens. After that I have no clue.
Am I an idiot for not knowing? Nah
Is it a fandom worth getting involved in? Homestuck is enjoyable by itself but if the fandom is still the same from when I was a part of it, then no. You will lose close friends over having different OTPs. Homestuck by itself is still pretty cool though.

As described on the MSPA website, Homestuck is "a tale about a boy and his friends and a game they play together." Homestuck is the fourth story of MS Paint Adventures, and by far the largest one yet, with 6,849 pages (out of 8,752 MSPA pages) as of October 16, 2013. It started on the 13th of April 2009; 413 becoming a recurring number in-universe.

Various numerical data about Homestuck are maintained here.

Homestuck's basic premise was inspired by games like The Sims, Spore, and EarthBound. Unlike previous Adventures, Homestuck is no longer primarily driven by reader submitted commands, Andrew having taken full control of the story during Act 4. However, he admits to still drawing inspiration from the speculation and fanart of his fanbase.

The Homestuck Beta, that was started on April 10, three days prior to the now official release, was Andrew's original attempt to start the comic, which he planned to make entirely in Flash, and drop the MS Paint-style art. However, when the Homestuck Stable Release came, it was revealed that it would continue its art style and use of animated GIFs instead. It was revealed a few days later in Andrew's blog that this was not planned, but rather, it was because doing a whole series with Flash was too difficult and time consuming for him. Although most of the adventure is still created with animated gifs, there are still occasional Flash updates which take the form of movies or even interactive minigames, and include music.

The game of Homestuck is shown to have two discs. The first disc lasts until the END OF YEAR TWOSburb Logo. The second disc, resembling a recordSburb Logo, was supposed to last until the end of the adventure, though it was later shownSburb Logo to only last through Act 6 Intermission 5. The second disc was scratchedSburb Logo by Terezi when she attempts to play it on a record player, causing the game to critically malfunctionSburb Logo at an inopportune time. It had to be taken to a scratch doctor in order to be repaired.

Hm, ok that sounds interesting. The fandom sounds to me like a bunch of tumblr crazed yaoi shipping addicts but tbh thats basically every fandom lol

Quoting my own post because something weird is going on with it. I see it here on my browser but the post count for the topic doesn't think it exhists.

But yeah. Before reading Homestuck, you gotta read Problem Sleuth. It's funny and quite charming.

Hm, that's wierd. I could see your post fine. Anyways, if I do end up diving into the world of Homestuck, I'll read Problem Sleuth first i guess.

ignore the people who say it sucks. it just sucks to them.
its about a boy and his friends and a game they play together.

its really long and can be dumb at some parts but BLOW YOUR MIND at others. cool flash animations, interesting dialogue between characters, and awesome music (on bandcamp here).

it just updated on the 16/17th after a WHOLE YEAR (its usually daily updates) and again on the 18 and 19th. next is on 10/25 (which is an important date, like 4/13 and 6/12) and no updates until 11/1 (half important date (literally)) after which, it will upd8 daily again. you should start at the very beginning.

homestuck can be really fun and the amount of thought and detail the author (andrew hussie) puts into it is amazing. it has a spinoff webcomic called Paradox Space BUT you should read it after 1 readthrough of homestuck. hussie has other comics on the site, called Bard Quest, Jailbreak, and Problem Sleuth (PS is really popular and even has a book set on What Pumpkin, the site's store.)

pls try it. its so cool.

I'm forever mad at Homestuck because I was one of the first funders for the game and we've totally been let down. I got my merch and all, but still no game in sight. I don't even want to look at the new update.

arent we supposed to get the adventure game in december
hussie's been overworked these 5 years and has been taking a break during the gigapause

Not that it's particularly relevant, but remember I'm not actually working on the next update in the meantime. I wrote all this stuff almost a year ago. Just spacing out the content while I get more stuff done.

Don't feel bad, I didn't know what it was either. I've heard about it for awhile and am familiar with the appearance of the "horned creatures", but I never felt bothered to get into it.

Homestuck was super popular and great like...4 years ago
now its just pretty gross and not worth the effort

the first 3 years of it were great, but recently its been such a letdown
it kinda tumbled after cascade, altho it was funny how much the fanbase shut down newgrounds omg
