I know Christmas is still a month away, but I'm already in a very festive mood. Even though I'm non-religious, I find the holiday spirit quite infectious, and I especially love the music that goes along with it.

So I've already started listening to a bunch of stuff... notably, Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas", which features tunes from the Charlie Brown Christmas specials, along with jazz treatments of Christmas music standards. Great stuff, really. His rendition of Greensleeves is especially good -- so good, in fact, that I was inspired to arrange the tune for solo guitar... should be up on YouTube soon. ;)

I'm also listening to "Emmanuel", by [ethereal], per Storm's recommendation. I dug their rendition of Joy to the World. Finally, "An Oscar Peterson Christmas" is on its way from Amazon.com... can't wait. <3 Also, with Hanukkah right around the corner, I've also been listening to a lot of klezmer music.

So are you guys listening to holiday music, too, or am I the only one listening to it so early? Haha...

Heck yeah. I've been jamming to the radio and TV (they play Christmas music), and I've also been listening to my TSO songs. <3

I <3 christmas, and christmas music, they pwn! christmas rocks, and im non-religous too. Dude i like that one walking in a winter wonderland song....

*doesn't listen to Christmas music*

I listen to metal 365 days a year. I only listen to Christmas songs if a band I like did a remake of a Christmas song.

I thought you liked TSO.

I'm slowly easing into the festive mood of things lately.

And considering my mom kinda' blasts holiday music when she cleans the kitchen...

Yeah, I've been listening to quite a bit of it. =P

Wowzies! xDDD Wow. My mom wanted to do that like last week too, but I'm like 'why would you start putting the tree up now? Turkey day hasn't even arrived! D:'

I don't like doing things so early....x.x

According to my parents, back in Russia, they'd put up the tree the day before New Year's (since Christmas was not associated with presents, Santa Claus, etc), and then have it all throughout January. Things are kinda the other way around in the U.S... most families (ours too) put the tree up in early Dec. and keep it until early January.

Hahahahah yeah that's true....we should get a new tree, this one is old....and I want a white one, green is pretty old.

Do you guys get fake or real trees?

I don't think we've ever had a fake tree...

real > fake

We usually put ours up a week before Thanksgiving. I'm not really sure if there's anything behind that other then simple family tradition, but that's how we've done it for as long as I can remember.

The same with the lights on the house, too.

On a slightly different note, don't you open up gifts on New Years as well, Bul? I'm guessing this goes along with the Russian idea? I kind of remember you mentioning something along those lines last year...

Usually, yeah. It's part of my family's holiday tradition...

We eat at like 7pm, and then at 10ish we turn on the usual holiday movie -- Irony of Fate -- and watch that. We put it on pause at 12am, open presents, and finish watching... we usually get to bed at like 2 or 3. It's great, haha...

I remember you mentioning that movie too, yeah.

I sware, it seems like the Holiday Season came around a lot faster this year then usual.

As far as the Real or Fake tree question goes, we kind of switch it up. For the first...I dunno', 8 years of my life, we went with real trees. Then we kind of switched over to fake...but this year we went with a real one again.

Real trees are great and all, but a spinning tree sounds pretty fun. = o
