Hobbies are throwing off my island plans

I think maybe hobby is more like a preference for them?

For example, both Sherb and Flurry's hobby is nature, but I do catch them exercise or doing yoga alone sometimes. Sure, they do water flowers and study plants with books but they also exercise and fishing too. Lopez and Flurry even trigger the treasure hunt more.

Elvis's hobby is education and Apollo's hobby is music but I just catch them doing strength training in resident service today. Though rare, I had Elvis singing in resident service while Dom and Flurry sit down and listen to him. Same with Punchy and Dom, whose hobby is play, they also do yoga aside from running around.

Sprinkles and Punchy's hobby is both playing but I catch them multiple times visiting museum :ROFLMAO:

I don't have villagers with fashion as a hobby for now so I am not sure.

So I think hobby maybe just a preference for the villagers? Like mostly they will do their hobbies, but sometimes they also do other things. To me, observing my villagers is very fun, because sometimes you can just catch them doing something they don't usually do and it is definitely a very pleasant surprise.

For me, I won't really prioritise about the aspect of hobbies that much in my villagers, I would just go for my dreamies because it makes me happy.

But of course this is just my thought, I think you should just play whatever ways that makes you feel happy.

Oh yeah it's definitely not an all or nothing thing!! It's just what they are more likely to be doing!

And yes big agree on playing whatever way makes you happy!! :)

Actually, checking the list, I have all villagers of different hobbies with education being the most (Chevre, Lily, and Wolfgang).

I wasn't intentionally meaning to do that but it's cool finding out that apparently I have all of them o.o

It is the least noticeable in my opinion.
"sometimes giving them clothes that match their current outfit in color or style."

I was dressed up in the bear costume and Carmen said how cute I looked and gave me something perfect to go with it and it was a paper bag GEE THANKS CARMEN WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY?

They carry purses or bags sometimes, check out clothes in Able Sisters, etc.
All my villagers carry bags though. Cyrano has a brown paper bag, Phil has a tote bag. Filbert's bag before he moved out looked like a lunch bag.

Emm...I need to correct my reply earlier after I look back my NH photos of my villagers.

If you want variety in hobbies, I would suggest to have at least 1 education, 1 nature and 1 play.

I noticed all villagers with whatever hobbies will sing, dance to music, go fishing or bug catching, visit museum, do yoga or exercises. However, I played for one month and more, and throughout my playtime, I haven't seen villagers with music or play as a hobby will read an education book outside their home. Yes, I caught my villagers with play as a hobby reading inside their house, but until now I haven't seen them reading outside their house. And the type of book they read is actually different depends on their hobby.

HobbiesTypes of book
EducationThey will wear glasses and read book.
PlayComics
MusicMagazines about musical instruments
NatureEncyclopedia about bugs and flowers

I also noticed only villagers with play as hobby will run around. And if other villagers (who don't have play as hobby) run around, usually it is because involve one villager with play as hobby.

My island don't have any villager with fitness as hobby but I will just ignore that because every villagers in my island exercises. :ROFLMAO: I don't have any villagers with fashion as a hobby in my island but it doesn't bother me as much.

Sorry for the long post, though in the end, this is just my thought. And I just played this game for only one month and a bit, so maybe there are more to these hobbies. As mentioned earlier, just play whatever ways that make you happy!

i had no idea about all of this.. can villagers show traits of other hobbies too? i swear i always see my guys doing a bunch of different things along with their normal hobby lmao

This makes so much more sense now!! I always saw Chief singing and I was like “hmm.. it doesn’t fit a cranky” but now I get it’s his hobby. Thanks for sharing! C:

does anyone know if only certain villagers will interact with outside furniture? I have a little place set up with instruments and a record player and I never see any villagers play them. Is it due to their hobbies or do I just miss it?

I have a piano, drums, and mic near my plaza, but I think not quite near enough because they don't get used much. I moved the mic like three spaces closer though and suddenly I had a duet with Cousteau and Muffy singing into it.

I've also noticed that singing often happens near stereos even if they aren't on. My villagers will turn to face them and sing at them, even though none of the ones I have outside are playing music.

This post just made me get a new list of dreamies based on personalities. I knew this was a thing but it effects DIY's?? Looking at their hobbies, I have a pretty good mix. Music and play being most prominent. My heart swells whenever I see Bob Naruto running with a smile. I find it funny how Lucky, the lazy dog's hobby is play. I will cry happily when I see him running around.

Interesting! I have a little spot on my island that has drums, sax, harp, and a bass with a stereo on and no one is ever near it :/

I just learned about hobbies, and I'm so happy they exist. I'm glad I only have one peppy annoying me with stardom and the other one with fashion. 😅 It adds diversity between the same personalities, but I don't think you have to care outside of that. More villagers sharing a hobby means they have someone else to do it with, right? It's more fun to have multiple villagers loving music and singing more often.

I have a ton of villagers with the nature/education hobby and while it's nice, I'd like a few more singers. So I think next time I go island I might look for someone with a music hobby.

Wow awesome I just checked and in my final 10 I’m going to have everything except the “play” hobby, which is perfect because it honestly annoyed me when Moe was constantly Naruto running around my island.

I have: 2 education, 1 play, 2 music, 1 fashion, 2 nature, 1 fitness

I like that I have one of everything, though I didn't plan for it to be that way! I think I'd prefer to have more play and music villagers myself though.

Interestingly enough, my jock (Sly) doesn't have fitness as a hobby - he likes play!

I currently have zero education villagers, and my island is supposed to the an academic town, lol...
Not a fan of any education villagers though, what to do...
I have 4 nature ones, though.

I generally don't care about hobbies but I did notice that the majority of my villagers has the music hobby so that's nice. There aren't any with the play hobby though as far as I know, so it's really rare to see them Naruto run

I can relate to this and I considered this too. It seems that villagers will join in on the activities of others so it's not a huge deal (especially to play/run around with Dom) which is a nice little detail.

My villagers are as follows which is a good balance for me personally. I have a ton of flowers so it's nice the villagers take interest in them and I love the education interest since it's a personal goal of mine. I used to have Audie and Fitness is her interest, but I'm okay with missing that one around town.

Education 2 - Chevre and Vivian
Fashion 1 - Bunnie
Music 2 - Pashmina and Apollo
Nature 4 - Beau, Nan, Raymond and Sherb
Play 1 - Dom

edit: I forgot Raymond lol
