Help using PWP to align villagers houses?

I'm trying to align my villagers houses so theyre in that perfect straight line that I see on all the dream towns. I keep reading that you should use PWPs to block off areas where you dont want them to move, but can someone give me a bit more detail? I have almost no PWPs unlocked, so just the basic ones, how much space will they block off? Where should I place them? That kind of thing, thank you so much!

use one of the cheapest pwp's, and just put them everywhere. I believe houses must be two spaces away on the sides and three in front.

ok so if im using the yellow bench, for example, do you know how big of a space around the actual bench is blocked off?
