I traveled back 1 day last night so that today morning my days would sync (I was 1 day ahead in game).
I basically just changed my settings on the Switch to make them sync to the Internet date and time again.
But I didn't get the morning message from Isabelle this morning.
It seems like nothing really changed since yesterday - the game already remembers the chores I completed, the villagers remember that I spoke to them, I didn't get the items I ordered in the main, etc. - so does traveling backwards in this game does not count as a new in-game day? I remember it did in New Leaf which is why I'm really confused.

Thats what confuses me too.

I missed Daisy Mae one day and I TT'd back a few hours and everything was still the same, including her price.

The only thing I would say would probably be that the turnips will rot if you do this, but I didn't see anything else that was different.

That's interesting.
I haven't time-traveled excessively in New Leaf but I remember it counting as 1 new in-game day.
I didn't even receive the Flick model I ordered or any of the other stuff.
I hope I didn't mess something up.

I don't think you would have (other than turnips rotting). I TT'd back to my original time shortly after and had no issues.

It seems like it doesnt count as a new day and all the days you have played stay somewhat the same even when going back. As in new building wont be built or new bridges ect. Nooks cranny will have the same items and those items will be sold if you bought them on that day before. I'm not a huge fan of it tbh as I like time traveling but also dont like staying really far from current time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So this is what I have experienced.

For example, today is 19th. If you change back to 18th, you are not on the new day. But after that, you change to 19th(Sync off mode, switch to 19th manually, not on Sync mode), you will consider as a new day.

And I think all the time after your time travel, you put Sync On, you are not on the new day.

Even though these days seems not a new day, but every TT will change the Turnip selling price in Nook shop. Except you only TT backward in short time period before it's time to change the turnip selling price

Luckily, I don't have turnips.

I only TT'd because I was worried that if I don't, it could potentially mess up my Earth Day update in some way (or so I've been told).
But now I'm getting an exact repeat of the previous day.
Flick is also here and he even knows about the art I commissioned him to do.
Oh well.

In addition, if you have a villager in boxes, you can TT backwards any amount of time and they will still be in boxes. Repeat forever to keep a villager in boxes indefinitely.

I've been TTing to cycle out villagers I don't like, and then turn internet synced time back on once someone pings. Meaning they confirm they're moving, and I immediately zoom back to present day.

It is NOT like one day passing. The villager who asked me to move 7+ days in the "future" is NOT in boxes at this point. Nook furniture is the same, and you'll have the same visitor. Bridges/Inclines, house upgrades, building moves that were started on the last day you spend in the future do not move forward.

BUT! You'll have new Nook miles + rewards, and you'll have a new money tree spot, new DIY recipe on the beach, etc. I believe even new fossils. Even if you've already collected these things before when you were in this day. So it's a kind of soft reset for the automated nature elements? But not a full day progressing.

Oh wow... that definitely is very different then.

Yeah, it just doesn't count as far as progressing the game goes. The only thing that will happen is your turnips rot and weeds will grow. It goes for any length of time. So if you TT to December and switch back to current time, it'd only count as one day.

oh shoot rlly? are u sure it was the same day though as in not like 3 am on lets say Thursday (bc that doesn't count as new day) and u tted back to Wednesday? :o

I don't actually have anything new.
It's a continuation of the achievements I didn't finish last night basically.
There's also no new DIY on the beach.

Yes, I TT'd back in the early morning but then the new day starts at 5 am anyway.
Anyway, I'm back on the correct date and time so there doesn't seem to be a problem with that.

I guess it's fine. I'll just catch more bugs to sell to Flick.
I just didn't know that the mechanic worked this way in the game.

🤷‍♀️
That's what happens in my game! No new Isabelle announcement, but once I turn the internet sync date back on to TT back to normal time, I ALWAYS have new DIY and nook miles multipliers.

Maybe that's where I went wrong.
But I was getting mixed info here and some people said that the date and time must be synced with the Internet in order to receive Nintendo event updates and such and I was worried that with Earth Day fast-approaching, I might miss out.

But then tomorrow my game should still move onto the next day, right?

Wait, so you're saying, you DO GET new achievements after syncing the date and time with the Internet?
Because I definitely have nothing new.

Does TTing backwards to a different day cause the Nooklings turnip prices to be locked into a constant decrease for the rest of the week or is this unaffected? Plan to give turnips to someone else to hold before the backwards TT so they won't spoil

I really have no idea as I didn't have turnips.
I heard others saying that TT'ing backwards will spoil your turnips if you have any.
But, in my case, today's gaming day has sort of been stuck in limbo - no new recipe by the beach, the same visitor (Flick) no new mail, etc.).
Makes me think all the more that they don't actually intend for you to TT this time around.
I'm just waiting for 5 a.m. tomorrow and I hope I'll be greeted with Isabelle's new message.
I definitely won't be messing with the system clock for a while.

Did you actually open the game up and save after you synced your switch clock yesterday, or no? If you played in game on today’s date, saved and exited, and then changed your clock but didn’t play again until today (with the same date you played on yesterday), then the game didn’t really experience time travel. You would’ve had to actually play and save on yesterday’s updated date for the game to process today as a different day.
