So I lost my Ds, and when I found it this morning I was overjoyed. But when I booted up nl, Isabelle said that merengue was in boxes. In a desperate attempt, I ripped out the cartridge, put it back in, and turned back the ds clock a day. When I loaded my town, Merengue was gone. (Which was expected)

I am determined to get her back. I know I have to cycle 16, but I had all 10 of my dreamies before she left.

Will someone tell me how I can cycle 16 while losing as few villagers as possible?? In dire need.

To be honest with you, i recommend kicking another out and cycling for 2 at the same time, it is very hard to get the 10th to leave and when you are cycling for 2, you have a 1 in 5 chance that one you want to cycle out will ping to leave and it makes things way easier :) a few friends did this and it worked great for them.

Unfortunately you're probably best to move out another Dreamie (there are always people willing to hold villagers for a while), that way you have two villagers to move out rather than just one, and also I personally have never been able to move out the last villager to move in until a villager before them has gone!

Good luck cycling her back, Merengue is such a sweetie :)

-pats- I'm going through the same situation. All I gotta say is buckle down and find somebody to hold a dreamie for you while you cycle. That's what I'm doing now. @A@;

Just a couple of words of advice.
1. It's never a good idea to "rip" out your catridge, as, from experience in other consoles as well, it may end up with either corruption or breaking the system.
2. It's best to cycle another one of your dreamies out, as it's near impossible to cycle a 10th new villager out, and that way you can cycle both of the dreamies back in after you've done the 16-cycle trick.

hm i would suggest letting 2-3 of ur dreams go and while ur cycling others you will be cycling to get back ur other dreams you lost. plus there are so many power save blogs that finding dreamies isn't hard at all anymore

it would take a really long time if you have a town full of dreamies.. for next time, here's a tip:if you haven't played for a while, make a new save file and see if anybody moved/is in boxes. if nobody did/is, just go to the home menu, exit, and just play as you usually do. if somebody is gone time travel to the last time you played (or when you think they moved out, but i do last time played to be safe) continue playing until you get to save, then you can save and quit and just delete your new character. for boxes you can just tt one day back to stop them. if you're time traveling a far time back, wait until a villager requests to move then deny it. you can now tt as far as you can without losing any villagers.

waIT YOU RIPPED OUT THE CARTRIDGE O_o weren't you afraid of a corruption...?

Well trying to do the 16 villager cycle with your Dreamies will be pretty difficult, and it would depend on what method you're going to use to try and get the cycle villager to move out.

I had one free space to get Chrissy back (after she left), and it took so long. I lost her in March, and in ~November, I only got 7 villagers out. But then again, I lost interest in Animal Crossing/played on a second cartridge, just to give you a little insight

Get a random move in for you 10th, and keep doing that 16 times, you shouldn't loss any dreams if you don't time travel... that worked for me ~

It is near impossible as some have said to get a 10th villager yo move out, I have tried it and know as well. Your best cycling two at a time, since it just happened it won't be that difficult to clear both voids. And as far as TT it is not possible to stop a villager in boxes. Going back a day will result in them being gone, not resetting them in boxes. You can make a post asking for any villagers people are about to void, and just go fear and backwards constantly. But you have to make sure you find out who's moving each time as if you don't when you go forward again you can risk losing a third dreamie then.

I get what everyone is saying, but it really sounds like a lot of work, I don't know, it just sounds like a lot of 'thinking' rather than just a bit of 'mindless' relaxation )

How about trying for another normal villager rather than trying to cycle out 16, especially as this means you have to let go (albeit possibly temporaily, another dreamie)

eg Tia - normal elephant who looks like teapot (as oposed to a rhino that looks like a cake).

There is another way now - a way I am worried about as I think it may cause overwritten code to enter all our games via streetpass (villagers can move in via streetpass) - I'm not sure what it exactly does but would not advise it. Nor can it be talked about here.
But the dangers are.

Personally I would look for another villager that you would like to have and keep fond memories of your merangue.

To prevent similar in future - keep a note book by game and note down your save time & date - if you can't play for a while you can change time to a little after the time you played (I mean just an hour or two) - you are not going back over a past save, game does not see it as TT. But I can see that is a bit tedious to do.

There's also a way where you can either clear your 16 villager cycle, or, inject the villager back into the game and problem solved. I know people get a bit sensitive on here about "hacking" but to be fair, I'm pretty sure everyone would use that method if they could. It doesn't affect anyone else's game, it's not cheating, and I would only suggest it if you're really that desperate to get her back. Otherwise, I hope you have a lot of patience as it will take a lot of time, especially if you don't want to cycle two villagers instead of just the 10th.

kiti_in_wonderland - hacking is what I was talking about - and I'm not at all certain whether it can affect other players games or not.
As I understand it the person doing the editing can only overwrite one of their existing villagers with the hex code of the required one - what do you then have - an overwritten villager.
Is everything changed (including their house contents?) or do some aspects of the base villager remain?
I don't know and when that villager moves out as they will, they can then enter another players game via streetpass.
Its too early to say either way, I've not seen any explanations by the developers of these tools on what exactly you have got with these changed villagers.

No, they wouldn't need a hex code. You get any villager just to have a 10th (that being the villager you want to replace), dump that game and edit the same via the save tool. You select villager 10, and change it to the villager you want - in this case Merengue. She will be 100% original. Her house will be her house in it's original state etc. The only things that remain the same are the nickname they had for you and friendship level of the villager you replaced - otherwise everything else is Merengue. Even if you replaced a smug villager - the dialogue will be a normal villager etc. Nicknames can be changed, and the friendship level...well if you cycled out she the friendship level would be low anyway unless you are getting back the EXACT same one you lost (someone held onto her for you).

It wouldn't affect anyone's game as you are replacing a villager, not moving one out again and so fourth. Really, it would just be like your town was. Then there is the tool that clears the cycle but I don't know what that would do, i.e. would those villagers move into someone elses town then? But the save editor tool is the one that wouldn't affect another persons game. It is entirely up to you, but it's the one I would suggest if you really don't have the time to cycle out and just want her back.

To be honest with you, i recommend kicking another out and cycling for 2 at the same time, it is very hard to get the 10th to leave and when you are cycling for 2, you have a 1 in 5 chance that one you want to cycle out will ping to leave and it makes things way easier :) a few friends did this and it worked great for them.

yes it'll be a long process... especially with only one villager you can afford to loose...
furthermore, indeed, the last to have moved in will not be in a hurry to leave, so you will have to give up (at least one) of your obtained dreamies, to get that one out...

sorry, sure this is not want you were wanting to hear...
