Help Needed [pix included]

Okay so my father found this weird creature. It looks about 6-7 inches long. It moves like a snake, has no legs, and has a tiny tongue (sorry if misspelled). My mother thinks it's a snake, but my father says he has seen something like it but with legs. He says it may be one of those lizards that look like worms. I have no idea what he is talking about what so ever. It looks like a earth worm from far away, but if you look closely it looks kind of blackish and has tini tiny scales on him/her. We are not sure what it is, so hopefully one of you might have a clue.

Quiet while ago it disappeared from the container...o.o....it might just be under the sand

i think it'll die but meh. It is probably in the sand of the container right now.

It is a plains blind snake, it is completely harmless. They eat small invertebrates and insects. They are beautiful,unusual snakes and you are lucky to have them.

It has scales you say? I actually have seen it before, although I don't know what it's called. I remember reading about it in my biology book, it was used as an example to show vestigial or something. I think some of them have really really tiny legs, but others don't have any at all...I'll see if I can get the name.
